Job Description

Greene County Schools Child Nutrition Warehouseman Nature of Work:
The Warehouseman is expected to perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks. General instructions are given for work to be done, and the employee should be able to prioritize tasks and make simple adjustments as necessary, involving communication with the Cafeteria Managers. The Warehouseman will report to the Child Nutrition Director while working for Child Nutrition. Errors should be limited and should be corrected with little loss. The employee is indirectly supervised and is responsible for managing his/her time appropriately.
Illustrative Examples of Work:
Pick up and deliver food and supplies to Greene County Schools. Stock and manage inventory in the warehouse. Record temperatures of the refrigerator, freezer, and dry storage areas in the warehouse. Collect and distribute mail and other items to various personnel throughout the school district Perform various maintenance tasks as requested (replacing light bulbs, assembling furniture/supplies, etc.). Travel to various stores to purchase food and non-food items as needed. Perform any other duties as requested by the director, supervisor, or cafeteria managers. Safely operate equipment in accordance with quality standards in assigned areas. Consistently utilize proper procedures for storing food.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Some knowledge of proper food storage procedures. Knowledge and ability to operate a forklift Ability to prioritize tasks and duties as assigned. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and carry up to 50 lbs. Ability to read and understand simple written and spoken instructions. The employee will be frequently lifting heavy boxes and items that may cause potential risk of back pain or even injuries if executed incorrectly. The employee is expected to lift items correctly and use the provided handcarts when needed.

However, a large amount of the job is spent outside, and exposure to the outdoor environment is a frequent part of the position. The warehouse is not equipped with air conditioning or heat. Temperatures will range from 40-75F in the winter and 60-85F in the summer. Time spent in freezing temperatures (zero degrees or less) is frequent, when deliveries require stock to be put away or removed from the walk-in freezer. Equipment & Tools used: Truck/car, handcart, forklift, ladder Personal Protective Equipment suggested: Personal supplies to aid in heavy lifting (gloves, back brace, etc.) will be provided by the employee as needed
Experience and Continuing Education:
Applicant must have a valid State of North Carolina Drivers License at the date of hire and maintain this license while employed in this position. Must meet all minimum continuing education requirements designated by the Greene County Board of Education, North Carolina Board of Education, and the United States Department of Agriculture. Must stay up to date on current requirements for each governing agency. Warehouse Typical Workday Schedule

  • 1 pm 7:05 Pick up Alternative School breakfast from West Greene 7:20 Pick up Pre-K food (main center) from Intermediate Schools 7:40 Drop off Pre-K 8:00 Drop off at the Alternate School 8:15-10 Warehouse duties, food transfers, deliveries 10:10 Pick up Pre-K from Intermediate School 10:25 Drop off Pre-K and assist with plating the meals in the to-go trays (take the Cambros) 11:10 Pick up Alternative school meals from Greene Central High School 11:25 Drop off Alternative school meals 11:40 Return Cambro's to Intermediate School 12:00 Return breakfast items to Greene Central High School and lunch to the Cambro 12:00•1:00 Work in the warehouse to ensure all stored items are maintained in an orderly manner, adhering to all food safety and security standards.
