Job Description

Job Title:
Order Picker 1st, 2nd and 3rd Shift $16.50 -18 Job Description The Order Picker works in the Order Processing department, accurately picking, packing, labeling, and loading customer orders using a modern, AI-driven inventory system. This role involves continuous walking, handling multiple orders at once, and working along a conveyor line to ensure packages move efficiently from picking to packaging and onto outbound trucks. Responsibilities Pick customer orders in the Order Processing department by pushing a cart equipped with a tablet that displays what items to pick, how many, and where they are located in the warehouse. Manage a cart with approximately 12 totes at a time, ensuring each tote represents and is filled for a different order, often working on up to 12 orders simultaneously. Use the AI-based inventory system to follow optimized pick paths that group nearby products to improve efficiency and pick rates. Place completed totes on the conveyor system so they move from the picking area to the packaging area within Order Processing. Work in the packaging area by standing at a conveyor, removing products from totes, and packing them into the correct boxes. Follow the automated packaging system that lights up a cart with boxes to indicate which box to use for each order. Assemble boxes, place items inside, run boxes through a tape machine, and apply labels accurately and neatly. Load finished packages coming down the conveyor into UPS trucks, including standing inside the truck when needed to stack and organize packages. Meet or exceed key performance indicators, including achieving a rate of approximately 100 lines per hour, where one line may represent a single item. Rotate roles within the packaging department approximately every two hours to support different parts of the process and maintain workflow. Participate in orientation and safety training, then apply safety procedures consistently throughout daily tasks. Shadow a trainer on the first day to learn processes, then perform tasks while being shadowed and coached by the trainer on the second day. Follow all workplace rules, including no use of cell phones or earphones on the production floor. Lift items up to 35 pounds independently and participate in team lifts for items over 35 pounds. Support shipping timelines by working in alignment with UPS pickup times at 9 a.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. Essential Skills Experience in warehouse pick and pack operations or order picking, including working with multiple orders at once. Ability to walk approximately 3-5 miles per day while pushing a cart through the warehouse. Capability to lift up to 35 pounds regularly and perform team lifts for items over 35 pounds. Hands-on experience or comfort with packing boxes, order picking, warehouse distribution, warehouse production, shipping and receiving, general production, general warehouse, or general labor. Work Environment The role is based in a high-volume warehouse Order Processing department that uses conveyor systems, AI-driven inventory technology, and an organized picking and packaging setup. Overtime fluctuates each week. Saturdays are currently optional but have been mandatory in the past. The environment is fast-paced and production-focused, with UPS pickups at 9 a.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. Work involves standing, walking long distances, and handling boxes on conveyors and in trucks. Dress code requires long pants or shorts that reach the knee, along with steel-toe footwear for safety. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Crystal Lake, IL.
