Job Description

Category Manager at Futura Category Manager at Futura in Daly City, California Posted in 1 day ago.
Type:
full-time
Job Description:
About the company Our client builds AI compute infrastructure at gigawatt scale, delivering one of the largest data centre programmes in the world. Their advantage is a modular build that goes up faster than anything else in the industry
  • and that speed depends entirely on supply chain. The mandate for this team is blunt: keep procurement permanently off the critical path. We are hiring two Category Managers, one for each category below. Both roles are titled Sourcing Manager internally. Category Manager
  • Electrical You will own the electrical category
  • switchgear, transformers, UPS, generators and busway.
These are the longest lead times in the entire build, which makes this the category most capable of setting or breaking the schedule. Negotiate capacity reservations with electrical OEMs years ahead of need, converting reservations to firm orders as the pipeline hardens Dual-source major equipment classes across OEMs whose products are not interchangeable, managing the design implications with engineering Track factory slots and production milestones supplier by supplier Maintain a real, current view of lead times by product class Requirements Experience sourcing major electrical equipment (switchgear, transformers, UPS, generation) for large construction programmes Track record of reserving factory capacity ahead of firm designs, and managing the commercial risk this creates Proven ability to expedite equipment through a factory
Desirable:
MV/HV equipment
  • utility-scale generation
  • OFCI programmes
  • factory witness testing Category Manager
  • Steel You will own the steel category
  • structural steel and fabricated assemblies feeding both the modular manufacturing line and the site builds.
The core of the job is running a network of regional fabrication shops as production capacity, rather than bidding out packages job by job. Source fabrication capacity across regional shops, so throughput scales with the build plan rather than one shop's backlog Negotiate raw material and fabrication pricing with mechanisms that survive commodity swings Qualify fabricators on quality and capacity, and load-balance across them weekly Requirements Experience sourcing structural steel or fabricated steel assemblies at industrial volume Strong grasp of fabrication economics
  • material, labour, coatings and freight
  • and where each shop makes its margin Experience qualifying fabrication shops, including identifying overstated capacity Commodity exposure managed through indexing or hedging
Desirable:
AISC-certified fabrication networks
  • modular construction
  • weld quality programmes
  • oversize load logistics Background A data centre background is not required for either role.
For the electrical role, these skills transfer from utilities and IPPs, renewables and generation developers, semiconductor fab and gigafactory programmes, and heavy EPC. If you have fought for a transformer slot in this market, you already understand the hard part. For the steel role, they transfer from any environment running an outsourced fabrication network at volume
  • heavy equipment and machinery OEMs buying large weldments, wind tower and utility structure manufacturers, process skid and module fabricators, solar tracker manufacturers, or modular construction.
