The VP of Indirect Procurement will lead the development and stand-up centralized Indirect Procurement function for a multi-site specialty building products distributor. Drives enterprise-wide procurement programs, efficiency, standardization, and spend visibility across indirect categories. Establishes governance, processes, and sourcing strategies to reduce fragmentation, improve compliance, and enable scalable growth while supporting branch-level operational needs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Stand up and lead a centralized indirect procurement function, defining org structures, roles, and a scalable operating model. Establish procurement governance and buying guardrails, balancing enterprise cost control with necessary branch-level flexibility. Implement procurement policies, approval workflows, and category ownership to drive consistency, visibility, and compliance. Build enterprise-wide visibility into indirect spend, identifying savings opportunities and developing a prioritized sourcing roadmap. Lead strategic sourcing across key indirect categories (e.g., logistics, facilities, MRO, IT, services), including supplier consolidation and negotiation. Partner with branch, operations, and functional leaders to understand decentralized spend and drive adoption of enterprise sourcing strategies. Deliver measurable cost savings and cost avoidance through supplier strategies, contract optimization, and demand management. Implement and enhance procurement tools to enable data-driven decisions and scalable processes. Drive change management across a decentralized organization, influencing adoption of new processes, suppliers, and standards. Build and lead a high-performing procurement team, fostering accountability and alignment with business and financial objectives.Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong change management and stakeholder influence across decentralized organizations. Deep understanding of sourcing strategies, contract negotiation, and supplier mgmt. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute procurement strategies aligned to business goals. Strong analytical capabilities with experience leveraging spend data to drive decisions. Solid business and financial acumen to link procurement initiatives to P&L impact. Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders. Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead, inspire, and mentor a diverse team. Ability to influence without authority across decentralized business units. Change agent mindset with willingness to challenge legacy practices.Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, or related field (MBA often preferred). 10+ years of procurement/supply chain experience. 5+ years in senior leadership roles. Strong negotiation, analytical, and leadership skills. Experience in strategic sourcing and indirect procurement category management. Proven experience building or transforming a procurement function from the ground up. Experience operating in distributed, multi-site environments (e.g., distribution, retail, field services). Experience implementing procurement tools (e.g., eProcurement, spend analytics, CLM systems). Specialty Building Products is the leading distributor of specialty building products in North America.
