Job Description

The Director of Strategic Sourcing is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies across Heartland Dental's spend categories. This leader owns the end-to-end sourcing process, from spend analysis and market assessment through competitive sourcing, negotiation, contracting, and supplier performance management, with a focus on delivering measurable financial value, improving supplier performance, and ensuring Heartland has access to high-quality products and services at competitive market economics. The Director will partner closely with business leaders across the Heartland enterprise to understand requirements, challenge existing spend and processes, identify opportunities for cost and operational improvement, and implement sustainable sourcing strategies. Heartland Dental is the nation's largest dental support organization, providing non-clinical administrative support services to more than 3,100 supported doctors across 39 states and the District of Columbia in over 1,900 dental offices. Below is an overview of the duties and responsibilities you would take on in this role: Sourcing Strategy Develop and execute sourcing strategies across Heartland's spend categories. Partner with business leaders across the enterprise to understand requirements, challenge existing spend and processes, and identify opportunities for cost and operational improvement. Implement sustainable sourcing strategies that leverage market intelligence, competition, and enterprise-wide opportunities. Sourcing Events & Negotiations Own the end-to-end sourcing process for strategic and complex initiatives, including requirements gathering, market research, RFP development, supplier selection, negotiations, and contracting. Lead negotiations with existing and prospective suppliers, and identify alternative sources and market opportunities. Analytics & Synthesis Develop financial and operational analyses to quantify sourcing opportunities and track realized value. Use Excel, PowerPoint, and other analytical tools to evaluate spend, supplier proposals, business cases, and performance metrics. Clearly communicate recommendations, trade-offs, and results to senior leadership. Leadership Responsibilities Lead and develop a high-performing Strategic Sourcing team of two or more direct reports that consistently delivers against enterprise priorities. Provide clear coaching and feedback to support team development and elevate performance. Build strong cross-functional partnerships and influence stakeholders through fact-based analysis, clear recommendations, and executive-level communication.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or a related field. 7+ years of experience in Strategic Sourcing, Finance, or a related discipline, or 5+ years of Management Consulting experience. Proven track record leading complex sourcing initiatives, negotiations, and commercial strategies that deliver measurable value. Proven ability to partner with and influence senior executives and cross-functional leaders, build alignment across competing priorities, and drive enterprise-wide decisions and change. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to translate complex data and market insights into actionable strategies, business cases, and executive recommendations. Strong computer skills, including advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly and effectively communicate strategy, recommendations, risks, and business impact to stakeholders at all levels. High level of integrity, maturity, personal initiative, and sound judgment, with the ability to manage competing priorities and challenge the status quo. Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and retain high-performing teams. Ability to travel as needed to support business operations, team collaboration, company events, training, and other organizational priorities, including overnight travel.
Desirable Qualifications:
MBA or professional sourcing certification such as CPSM, CPM, or equivalent. Sourcing or procurement experience within a multi-site healthcare, dental support organization, or other distributed operating environment. Experience with sourcing and procurement technology platforms and spend analytics tools. Category experience across areas such as clinical and dental supplies, information technology, facilities, logistics, or professional services. Experience building or maturing a strategic sourcing function, including process design, governance, and supplier segmentation.
