S_180083 Spherion is hiring a Purchasing Manager for our client in Elkhart, IN! The Purchasing Manager will negotiate vendor pricing and terms to source materials that meet customer demand while maximizing inventory turnover and supporting corporate financial goals. Reporting directly to the President, this role oversees vendor partnerships, inventory management, cost reduction strategies, and the Assistant Purchasing Agent.

Responsibilities:
Vendor & Contract Management:

Research, evaluate, negotiate, and maintain long-term relationships with reliable vendors; solicit bid proposals and analyze offer value (price, quality, service, lead times).

Inventory & Demand Planning:

Monitor stock levels, forecast demand, and set purchase order timing/quantities to maximize turns, prevent scrap, and prevent stockouts.

Team Leadership & Operations:

Supervise and direct purchasing staff (including the Assistant Purchasing Agent); set operating procedures, strategies, and efficiency workflows.

Cross-Departmental Coordination:

Partner with warehouse staff to verify delivery conditions; update the Sales team on pricing or supply shortages; assist with customer phone calls and counter sales as needed. ...

Prepare cost analyses, enter purchase data, build cost-reduction strategies, and assess operational performance using company software.

Compliance & Engagement:

Monitor relevant industry laws and regulations; attend trade shows; travel to branch locations as required.

3+ years of experience in the electrical industry.

Qualifications:
Experience:

Minimum 5 years of proven work experience as a purchasing officer or agent.

Education:

High school diploma or GED; Bachelor???s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Accounting, or Business Administration.

Technical Proficiency:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and adaptability to industry/vendor inventory management software.
