Responsible for developing and executing global commodity strategies that drive long-term value and resilience across the supply base. This role shapes functional direction by influencing sourcing decisions across multiple product lines and managing key strategic supplier relationships. As a recognized authority, the Principal Commodity Manager advises leadership and engineering stakeholders on advanced cost modeling, market intelligence, and risk mitigation. The role balances strategic advisory with hands-on execution to ensure supply continuity in a scaling, high-growth environment. Key Responsibilities Define and lead global commodity strategies across multiple product lines and categories with high business impact. Develop long-term commodity strategies to support business needs and proactively educate stakeholders on market intelligence and cost developments. Act as the commercial lead for critical or high-risk suppliers, managing strategic negotiations and multi-year supply agreements. Identify and assess global supply market trends and cost drivers to inform functional sourcing direction. Partner with engineering, product, and operations leaders to ensure procurement decisions align with product roadmaps and business goals. Lead or co-lead cross-functional sourcing initiatives, councils, design-for-cost efforts, or make-versus-buy evaluations. Anticipate and mitigate supplier risks, including geopolitical, financial, capacity, and compliance risks. Develop and monitor advanced supplier performance metrics and initiate improvement plans or transitions as needed. Support new product introductions (NPIs) by ensuring timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials and components. Establish and maintain ERP and procurement systems accuracy across complex sourcing structures. Mentor and guide procurement professionals across levels to promote knowledge sharing and functional excellence.

The base pay range for this position is between $154,000.00 to $200,000.00 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This range represents a good-faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Boston Dynamics offers a generous Benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, and an annual bonus structure. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Deep expertise in global commodity sourcing, supplier strategy, and contract development. Demonstrated sourcing experience with critical robotics components such as actuators, sensors, and motion control systems. Ability to lead functional sourcing strategies and initiatives with significant financial or operational impact. Strong command of cost modeling, total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis, and supplier economics. Skilled in managing complex supplier relationships, conflict resolution, and long-term performance outcomes. High proficiency with ERP and procurement analytics systems; able to influence system design or data structure decisions. Executive presence and communication skills for cross-functional influence and strategic alignment. Typical Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred). 12+ years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or commodity leadership roles. Demonstrated success leading complex negotiations and supplier initiatives at a functional or multi-regional level. Professional certifications (e.g., CPSM, CPIM, CSCP) or equivalent experience strongly preferred. The base pay range for this position is between $134,400.00 to $168,000.00 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This range represents a good-faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting.
