Job Description:
INVENTORY AND PURCHASING MANAGER
Walex Products Company, headquartered in Leland, NC, is seeking a hands-on Inventory and Purchasing Manager to take ownership of our inventory management and purchasing operations. This is a working manager role with direct responsibility for day-to-day execution, not a supervisory position. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable in the system and on the floor-analyzing inventory data in NetSuite one hour and working through a supplier issue the next.
Specific duties will include:
- Manage inventory levels across raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods to maintain optimal stock while minimizing working capital; develop and refine replenishment strategies in NetSuite.
- Drive demand planning and production scheduling in close coordination with manufacturing and sales teams to ensure materials are available when needed.
- Create and manage purchase orders in NetSuite; own the full purchasing cycle from requisition through receipt, including vendor follow-up and discrepancy resolution.
- Build and maintain supplier relationships; support contract negotiations, evaluate vendor performance, and ensure quality and delivery reliability.
- Analyze inventory and supply chain data to identify root causes of inefficiencies; implement process improvements using lean principles and data-driven decision-making.
- Coordinate with transportation and logistics providers to support on-time delivery at cost-effective freight rates.
The successful candidate will have:
- Hands-on proficiency in NetSuite, including inventory management, MRP, and purchase order workflows; experience with ERP data entry and system-driven replenishment.
- Strong knowledge of inventory control methods, demand planning, and materials management in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in purchasing, including creating and managing POs, supplier follow-up, and vendor relationship management.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to perform root cause analysis and implement practical, lasting solutions.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; comfortable working cross-functionally with manufacturing, sales, customer service, and finance.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience in the fragrance, chemical blending, or specialty chemicals industry preferred; familiarity with raw material sourcing and lot/batch traceability a plus.
Requires a bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field, plus 5+ years of hands-on experience in inventory management, purchasing, or materials management in a manufacturing environment. CPIM certification preferred. Send resume, three references, salary requirements, and day phone number to Kay@robinsonhrconsulting.com. Excellent benefits are provided, and relocation is available. Salary commensurate with experience.
