Job Description

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?
We are seeking a Senior Category Manager to lead strategic sourcing and supplier management for direct materials, with a primary focus on chemicals and distribution-based chemical supply. This role manages an estimated annual spend of $120M and partners closely with business leadership to drive cost, quality, service, inventory, and supply continuity improvements. The ideal candidate brings deep category expertise, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to translate market insights into effective sourcing strategies. Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute category strategies for direct materials that support cost, quality, delivery, inventory, sustainability, and new product goals.
  • Analyze spend and market trends to identify savings opportunities, lead RFQs, negotiate with suppliers, and support supplier transitions.
  • Partner with engineering and R D on value analysis and value engineering initiatives to deliver cost productivity.
  • Assess supplier capacity and capability to support demand plans and service level expectations.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts, non-disclosure agreements, and supplier stocking agreements that strengthen commercial performance.
  • Lead supplier relationship management efforts to improve quality, service, reliability, lead times, and inventory performance.
  • Monitor market conditions and manage supply risk, including response planning during disruptions or crisis situations.
  • Build and maintain market intelligence for key direct material categories, especially chemicals.
  • Prepare analyses, forecasts, and presentation materials for business reviews, budget updates, and leadership discussions.
  • Contribute to annual operating plan development and ongoing financial forecasting.
  • Coach and develop team members while leading execution against short- and long-term objectives.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Marketing, or a related field, with 10+ years of relevant experience; or a master's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience. Equivalent technical education and experience may be considered.
  • MBA or professional certification such as CPM, CPSM, ISM, APICS, or similar preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in direct materials sourcing or purchasing, ideally within chemical raw materials.
  • 8+ years of experience in purchasing and/or supply chain management.
  • Strong contract negotiation and supplier management experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% for supplier meetings, conferences, trade shows, and site visits.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute complex sourcing and category strategies.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in complex supply chain environments.
  • Knowledge of construction-related procure-to-pay processes.
  • Experience driving supplier performance improvements through lean or continuous improvement methods.
