Snapshot As our Purchasing Manager, you'll be running the show when it comes to all things product. That means everything from buying merchandise (procurement) to how we display and price it, and even guiding our buyers. You'll be the go-to person for our vendors, building those important relationships, and keeping our inventory just right You'll team up with leaders across the store to create, share, implement, and tweak our purchasing standards and procedures as needed. What You'll Do Set sales, margin, and labor goals, keeping our budget and what's standard in the industry in mind. Keep an eye on how sales are doing and our operational numbers, always looking for ways to improve. Hands-on involvement in and overseeing of regular inventory counts. Ensure competitive pricing, stay up to date on industry trends to see what others are doing with pricing, products, and merchandising. Train, supervise, and support our Buyers Fine-tune our buying guidelines whenever necessary to make sure they're supporting our business needs and mission, aligning our purchasing with product guidelines, sales goals, and operational needs. Enforce store policies and procedures fairly and firmly. Keep our equipment in good working order and suggest repairs or replacements when needed. Use good judgment to sort out any issues with customers, other employees, and the Co-op in every situation. You'll collaborate with the Operations Manager and Assistant Operations Manager to make our product selection, merchandising, and customer experience even better. You'll help create a positive workplace culture that fits with our co-op principles and values. Working with the Cooperative Executive Officer and HR Manager, you'll handle any corrective action or termination proceedings if needed, following Mariposa's policies. Uphold our mission and values Follow store policies and food safety standards to ensure a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone.
Requirements:
Who We're Looking For Grocery or other industry buying experience. Demonstrated success in setting and achieving long-term goals. Excellent communication skills, particularly in sensitive or public settings. Experience with pricing, margin management, product selection, and trends. Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google products. Must have experience with POS systems; CRM system experience is a plus. Highly detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness. Confident in upholding Loss Prevention policies and procedures in retail. Adept at identifying, reporting, and resolving problems proactively. Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary. Comfort with physical tasks like lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and moving in a fast-paced environment in and out of various conditions Having a current PA ServSafe certification is a plus, but you'll definitely need to get it if you don't have it! Extra Plusses (but not required!) Supermarket experience Experience with co-ops or other community-based organizations Strong understanding of product production, practices, and agricultural terms (sustainable, organic, pasture-raised, grass-fed, seasonality, fair trade). Supervisor or key holder experience in the Grocery industry. Master of organization, pay attention to every detail, and know how to prioritize like a pro.
