Position Summary:
The Supervisor, Purchasing and Planning plans, directs and develops procedures to achieve all company objectives and goals related to purchasing and planning, as well as the MRP System. Ensures products and services are ordered in a timely manner. Responsible for creating and reviewing requisitions, obtaining quotations, negotiating prices with suppliers, examining proposal/bids and making awards to suppliers for the procurement of products and services in accordance with purchasing policies and procedures. Responsible for reviewing the performance of existing suppliers and evaluating new sources of supply for products and services. Fosters long-term working relationships with strategic suppliers.
Essential Job Functions:
Purchasing:
Responsible for the processing and administration of purchase orders in accordance with Purchasing policies and procedures. Sources and costs commodities for customer quotes, constantly sourcing better pricing for stock items. Analyzes quotations, proposals/bids and contracts and makes subsequent awards to suppliers. Reviews and procures material requirements generated by MRP System. Handles capital project expenditure requisitions as necessary. Coordinates returns to suppliers for credit or replacement. Coordinates repairs and preventative maintenance of office and plant equipment. Coordinates with customers on commodities they provide. Maintains and orders office supplies. Maintains First Aid cabinet and orders supplies. Resolves problems with delivery, supply, invoicing, quality, etc.
Suppliers:
Processes supplier credit applications. Evaluates, approves, and controls suppliers. Negotiates service and rental contracts.
Planning :
Establishes and maintains minimum inventory levels and safety stock. Communicates issues (backorders, price differences, change in specifications, etc.) with orders and specifications to the end users. Provides supervision and backup for Planning.
MRP System:
Responsible for Oracle activities; (e.g., system maintenance: applying sourcing rules, approving supplier list, supplier data, etc.).
General:
Represents Purchasing in Product Development, Change Control, MRB, Forecasting and Demand Planning. Job Specifications (skills, knowledge, special training, certification, license requirements): Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment Strong computer skills including Purchasing and Inventory Management Software (e.g., Oracle) Ability to interact with all levels of staff Excellent attendance required Strong leadership and supervisory skills Ability to work in a high pressured, deadline-oriented environment Good analytical and communications skills
Education and Work Experience Required:
