Position Summary The Director, Procurement Excellence & Transformation is a senior procurement leader responsible for advancing the effectiveness, governance, capabilities, and maturity of the procurement function. Working closely with the Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) and senior business leaders, this role leads procurement transformation, process optimization, digital enablement, analytics, capability development, supplier risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives across the enterprise. The Director develops and executes a multi-year Procurement Excellence and Transformation roadmap in support of the enterprise procurement strategy, helping drive organizational growth, financial performance, operational resilience, compliance, and supply continuity. This role is accountable for establishing and continuously improving procurement methodologies, governance frameworks, technologies, and performance management practices that enhance operational effectiveness, support category management excellence, and advance procurement maturity. In a healthcare products and services environment, the Director helps ensure procurement processes, capabilities, supplier risk programs, and technology investments support product availability, regulatory compliance, business continuity, and long-term organizational success. The anticipated salary range for this position is $140k - $200k annual. The actual compensation offered may vary based on job related factors such as experience, skills, education and location. Primary Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Procurement Excellence Develop and execute a multi-year Procurement Excellence and Transformation roadmap in support of the enterprise procurement strategy, enabling cost optimization, risk mitigation, organizational effectiveness, digital enablement, and operational excellence. Responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving methodologies, governance frameworks, standards, tools, and leading practices that enable procurement performance and consistency across the organization. Partner with the CPO to implement and continuously improve the Procurement operating model, governance structures, service delivery frameworks, organizational capabilities, decision rights, and procurement maturity objectives. Translate procurement strategic priorities into executable programs, governance models, and capability-building initiatives. Assess procurement performance against industry benchmarks and leading practices and develop capability roadmaps that advance procurement maturity. Lead the development of annual functional priorities aligned with enterprise and procurement objectives. Enable Direct and Indirect Procurement teams through standardized methodologies, tools, training, analytics, governance, technology solutions, and best practices that improve organizational effectiveness and business outcomes. Procurement Transformation & Change Leadership Lead the design, prioritization, and execution of enterprise procurement transformation initiatives aligned with business strategy and procurement maturity objectives. Build and manage a multi-year procurement transformation portfolio that includes technology modernization, process redesign, capability-building initiatives, operating model enhancements, and organizational effectiveness programs approved through procurement leadership governance. Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, digitize, and scale procurement processes and ways of working. Develop transformation business cases, implementation roadmaps, success metrics, and value realization plans. Partner with executive stakeholders to secure alignment, investment, resources, and sponsorship for transformational initiatives. Establish and lead change management strategies that drive stakeholder engagement, adoption, capability development, and sustained outcomes. Monitor emerging market trends, digital innovations, AI capabilities, and procurement best practices to evolve organizational capabilities and maintain a best-in-class procurement function. Lead complex cross-functional initiatives that improve procurement effectiveness, stakeholder experience, productivity, compliance, and business performance. Procurement Governance & Operating Excellence Develop, maintain, and administer procurement policies, standards, procedures, controls, and compliance frameworks. Develop and maintain procurement playbooks, sourcing methodologies, toolkits, governance processes, templates, and standard operating procedures. Define and maintain procurement decision-making frameworks, approval authority matrices, escalation pathways, and RACI models. Ensure consistency, transparency, and accountability across procurement processes and sourcing activities. Partner with Finance, Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, and business stakeholders to strengthen governance, controls, and policy adherence. Drive enterprise-wide adoption of standardized procurement processes and best practices. Process, Systems & Digital Procurement Own and continuously improve Procure-to-Pay (P2P) processes and supporting workflows. Drive standardization and optimization across source-to-contract, category management, supplier management, contracting, and procure-to-pay processes. Lead digital procurement transformation initiatives, including eSourcing, contract lifecycle management, supplier relationship management, spend analytics, workflow automation, and AI-enabled procurement capabilities. Identify opportunities to leverage automation, predictive analytics, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies to improve user experience, decision-making, and operational efficiency. Partner with Information Technology teams to establish procurement technology roadmaps and system enhancement priorities. Ensure successful adoption, utilization, and governance of procurement technologies and digital tools. Procurement Analytics, Insights & Performance Management Establish enterprise procurement reporting, analytics, dashboards, and performance measurement frameworks. Develop standardized methodologies for measuring spend under management, savings, cost avoidance, value creation, supplier performance, risk, compliance, working capital impact, and productivity. Deliver actionable insights that support executive decision-making, category strategies, and business planning. Lead procurement performance management reviews and drive accountability for results. Promote data-driven decision-making and analytical rigor throughout the procurement organization. Develop executive-level reporting that communicates procurement impact, transformation progress, risks, and opportunities. Category Management Excellence & Value Realization Develop and maintain enterprise category management methodologies, sourcing frameworks, governance standards, templates, and best practices. Partner with Direct and Indirect Procurement leaders to strengthen category strategy development, sourcing execution, supplier management, and procurement discipline. Ensure consistent application of category management principles and strategic sourcing methodologies across procurement teams. Establish standards for sourcing project management, opportunity assessment, business case development, benefits tracking, and value measurement. Lead governance processes supporting value realization, procurement performance measurement, and enterprise reporting. Partner with Finance to validate savings, cost avoidance, working capital improvements, and broader value creation initiatives. Identify opportunities to improve spend visibility, sourcing effectiveness, supplier leverage, and value delivery. Maintain enterprise category management standards and governance while enabling Category Directors and Category Managers to execute sourcing and supplier strategies aligned with business objectives. Supplier Risk Management & Resilience Develop, administer, and continuously improve supplier risk management methodologies, tools, reporting standards, and governance processes. Collaborate with procurement, supply chain, quality, compliance, and business leaders to strengthen supplier resiliency and business continuity capabilities. Establish supplier risk monitoring and reporting processes that support proactive risk identification and mitigation. Support responsible sourcing, supplier diversity, sustainability, and ESG-related procurement initiatives. Executive Partnership & Organizational Influence Serve as a strategic advisor to the CPO and senior leadership team on procurement effectiveness, transformation priorities, organizational capabilities, and performance improvement opportunities. Facilitate procurement governance forums, executive steering committees, and cross-functional decision-making processes by providing performance insights, recommendations, and program updates. Present procurement performance, transformation progress, value realization, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership. Build trusted relationships with leaders across Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Information Technology, Human Resources, Legal, Compliance, Quality, and other key business functions. Influence stakeholders to drive alignment, adoption, and sustained organizational change. Represent procurement in enterprise initiatives and strategic planning activities. Procurement talent pipelines, capabilities, and succession plans support long-term organizational success. Business stakeholders view procurement as an innovative partner and catalyst for change. Master's degree (MBA, MS Supply Chain, Operations, Healthcare Administration, or related discipline) preferred. 10+ years of progressive experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, supply chain, procurement operations, category management, procurement transformation, or operational excellence. 5+ years of leadership experience managing procurement functions, centers of excellence, transformation initiatives, procurement operations, or enterprise process improvement teams. Demonstrated success leading procurement transformation, organizational effectiveness, digital procurement, operating model redesign, or enterprise procurement initiatives. Strong expertise in category management, procurement governance, process improvement, supplier management, procurement analytics, change management, and procure-to-pay operations. Experience implementing and optimizing procurement technologies, eProcurement platforms, spend analytics tools, contract lifecycle management systems, supplier management platforms, and AI-enabled solutions. Proven ability to lead large-scale cross-functional transformation programs and influence executive stakeholders. Strong analytical, financial, communication, project management, and organizational leadership capabilities. Experience within healthcare, healthcare products, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, distribution, or similarly regulated industries preferred. Professional certifications such as CPSM, CIPS, CPM, CSCP, Lean Six Sigma, Prosci, PMP, or equivalent certifications are preferred.
