Under the supervision of the cultural stewardship program manager and the environmental compliance and planning manager, and in collaboration with the Office of Tribal Relations, responsibilities include both programmatic elements and other duties as assigned.Programmatic Elements:
Coordinate the Cultural Stewardship Program. Implement the Momi Nak Sa Outdoor Program grant and other grants/projects by completing, tracking, and reporting on objectives, deliverables, daily logs, and programming activities. Coordinate and implement culturally relevant programming for Native American youth and families. Engage Native American youth through culturally appropriate programming in collaboration with Tribal Partners, maintaining regular communication with local Tribal governments and Tribal organizations. Coordinate and facilitate monthly meetings with Tribes, Tribal organizations, and agencies serving Native youth in Butte County. Apply a critical Indigenous cultural lens to review BCCER practices, including educational materials, website language, published content, and day-to-day operations to ensure cultural responsiveness. Implement cultural trainings, outdoor education programming, and other cultural initiatives. Develop and integrate cultural programming for groups using the BCCER, including hosting events with local Tribes and Tribal members, supporting faculty with field trips and research activities, student research projects, and community events. Communicate and engage with traditional gatherers, elders, and other Tribal members through the Office of Tribal Relations to identify gathering opportunities, priorities, and limitations within the BCCER. Develop protocols, methodologies, and communication strategies to support the care and stewardship of eco-cultural resources in designated locations. Perform other duties as assigned.EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Qualifications:
Experience performing duties similar to those described above. Experience working with Native American youth and communities. Experience with, and/or knowledge of, Tribal governments, Tribal education systems, and community-based organizations. Knowledge of local federally recognized Tribes, as well as non-recognized Tribes in Northeastern and North-Central California. Knowledge of California Indian Tribes, including ethnobotanical and cultural resources. Knowledge of California Indian traditional ecological knowledge and cultural practices associated with living cultural resources native to Butte County. Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, Indigenous priorities. Strong communication skills with diverse constituents, including Tribal governments, volunteers, students, interns, visitors, faculty, and staff. Experience implementing programs with a focus on safety and compliance. Ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks independently.Preferred Qualifications:
Defensive Driver Certification. Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, Native American studies, or a related field. Experience with grant implementation and reporting. Experience with cultural monitoring. Experience using hand tools.Additional Requirements:
Ability to perform sedentary and physical work. Strong communication skills. Willingness and ability to hike in steep or rough terrain. Requires consistent driving throughout the broader community. Supports and assists with transportation for field trips. Willingness and ability to work in extreme weather conditions. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Chico State Enterprises will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current Chico State Enterprises employee who was conditionally offered the position. Candidate must be in possession of valid driver's license and automobile liability insurance. Participation in the DMV Employer Pull Notice Program (driving record) is required.
