In this vital role, you will design, organize, and facilitate a variety of recreational and therapeutic activities tailored to participants' interests and needs. Position Summary The Activity Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing therapeutic, social, recreational, educational, and community-based activity programs for participants in accordance with their Individual Service Plan (ISP), Title 17, Title 22, and all applicable California regulations. This position supports participant engagement, independence, and quality of life while ensuring compliance with licensing requirements and company policies. This is a non-exempt, hourly position eligible for overtime in accordance with California wage and hour laws. Overtime must be approved in advance by management; however, all hours worked must be accurately reported and will be paid in accordance with applicable law. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Develop, coordinate, and implement therapeutic, social, recreational, educational, and community-based activities that support participant goals outlined in each Individual Service Plan (ISP). Direct and supervise Program Instructors and support staff during daily program operations and ensure proper staffing coverage for all program activities. Assist in establishing, reviewing, and implementing participant ISP goals and maintain ongoing communication with the planning team. Accurately document participant attendance, participation, behavioral observations, progress, and any pertinent changes related to their ISP. Participate in ISP meetings, reviews, and planning team conferences for each participant as required. Plan, organize, and maintain monthly calendars of activities, special events, volunteer opportunities, and community outings. Evaluate the effectiveness and appropriateness of individual and group activities to ensure participant engagement and program success. Provide coverage for absent Program Instructors or Program Coordinators as needed, including facilitating ISP meetings when assigned. Safely operate personal or company vehicles, when required, to support participant transportation, community integration activities, off-site programming, and other assigned business needs. Maintain active involvement in all program activities both on-site and in the community, including volunteering, money management training, transportation support, and community integration services. Ensure compliance with all company policies, participant rights, health and safety standards, Title 17, Title 22, and licensing requirements. Promptly report incidents, injuries, participant concerns, safety hazards, and compliance issues to management. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Qualified candidates must meet all applicable California Title 22 and Title 17 requirements, including licensing, health clearance, safety, training, and background clearance requirements for employment in a licensed day program setting. Preferred candidates will possess the following: Must be at least 18 years of age Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to safely perform job duties, complete required documentation, and support participant care Ability to complete all required pre-employment health screenings, including TB clearance, within required licensing timeframes Ability to successfully obtain and maintain DOJ, FBI, and all other required background clearances Current CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within required licensing timeframes Legal authorization to work in the United States and ability to provide acceptable Form I-9 employment verification documentation Minimum of 2 years of experience in crisis intervention, behavior support, and de-escalation techniques required; Pro-ACT or CPI certification is strongly preferred. Valid California Driver's License, acceptable driving record, and proof of insurability if driving is required as part of assigned duties Working knowledge of Title 17, Title 22, and other regulations related to licensed care programs Willingness to complete all required orientation, in-service training, continuing education, and certification programs Minimum of 2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or within a day program setting is highly preferred We value team members who are patient, professional, reliable, and passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Ability to lift, move, transfer, or assist with up to 50 pounds as required by participant care and program operations Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, squat, kneel, reach, twist, crawl, and climb throughout the workday as needed to perform assigned duties Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of residential, clinical, and community-based environments Frequent direct interaction with participants who may exhibit challenging behaviors, including but not limited to verbal aggression, physical aggression, self-injurious behaviors, PICA behaviors, elopement risk, and other behaviors requiring intervention, redirection, and crisis response Ability to safely respond to emergencies, behavioral incidents, and participant care needs in accordance with company policy, training, and licensing requirements Possible exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, medication administration environments, and other conditions common to healthcare and community care settings Ability to safely operate company or personal vehicles for participant transportation, community outings, appointments, and other assigned duties, if required by the position Employees may be required to use approved personal protective equipment (PPE), follow infection control procedures, and implement behavior intervention techniques consistent with company policy, Title 17, Title 22, Cal/OSHA requirements, and other applicable laws and regulations Equal Employment Opportunity Statement New Hope Day Program is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
