Chabot's mission is to spark and engage curiosity, deepen access and inclusion within science education, and provide opportunity for pathways into careers in the sciences. Situated on a beautiful 13-acre campus nestled in the redwoods of Oakland's regional parks, the Chabot Space & Science Center includes immersive exhibits, hands-on learning activities, science festivals, a state of the art planetarium, and is home to the official NASA Ames Visitor Center. Chabot's research-level astronomical observatory, featuring three large scale telescopes, is the largest observatory complex free for regular public viewing in the Western United States. Temporary/Seasonal Programs Assistant Job Summary:
The Seasonal Programs Support Assistant is a temporary summer position supporting the design and implementation of Chabot's public programs and events. This role works closely with the Lead Public Programs Developer and reports directly to the Director of Public Engagement. This position focuses on event planning, execution, logistics, and partner coordination and ensures high-quality program implementation and guest experience. This is a short-term, high-impact role supporting a condensed summer programming schedule, including evenings and weekends. This position has a weekly total of 16 -19 hours with an end date of August 14th,2026.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Support planning and preparation for public programs, including organizing materials, timelines, and logistical needs Assist in coordinating program schedules, planning documents and partner participation, ensuring all details are confirmed and communicated in advance Communicate with internal staff, volunteers, and partners to support clear and consistent program execution Provide day-of program support, including setup and breakdown Serve as an on-site point of contact to support partners and vendors, ensuring they are welcomed, set up, and integrated into the program Assist with program implementation, monitoring flow, troubleshooting issues, and adapting to real-time needs Support event logistics, including furniture setup, signage placement, A/V coordination, and supply distribution Help maintain strong guest experience and wayfinding, supporting visitors throughout programs Assist with post-event reset, organization of materials, and preparation for upcoming programs Maintain organized storage areas and track supply needs Provide timely updates to supervisors on program needs, challenges, and opportunities Other Duties as Assigned This position may take on other duties as assigned and is expected to remain flexible to meet the changing needs and priorities of the institution. Critical functions at Chabot are cross trained at all levels and positions to ensure appropriate levels of operational staffing, visitor assistance, overall safety, and are the responsibility of all Chabot personnel. Cross training will provide further education around the work and the impact of that work being delivered at Chabot.

Traffic Assistance/Direction Required Skills/Abilities:
Must be able to work with diverse audiences and with a wide array of content areas. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to stay organized in fast-paced environments. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to take direction and show initiative. Problem-solving mindset and ability to stay calm under pressure. Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma required; some college preferred. Experience in events, hospitality, museums, or customer service preferred. Interest in science engagement or public programming a plus.
