ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY SUMMARY
: The Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is currently searching for PolyTransfer Peer Mentors (PM) to support transfer students as they transition to, navigate through, and graduate from Cal Poly Pomona. This is achieved through direct engagement with our transfer population while supporting the daily operations of the PolyTransfer Program. PMs are trained, supervised, and evaluated by the PolyTransfer coordinator and assistant coordinator.SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO
(this is just a small sampling of work variety): I. Peer Mentorship Assist with the PolyTransfer Summer Transition and Advantage Programs which includes but is not limited to; mandatory attendance, staying in the dorms with the students for the duration of each program (possibly 4 days and 3 nights per program), organize and facilitate evening events for attendees, gather and guide students to the different program activities (e.g. check-in, meals, workshops etc.), ensure the safety of attendees, notify PolyTransfer coordinator and assistant coordinator of any issues or concerns. Provide year-long mentorship for ~15-20 mentees who participate in the PolyTransfer summer transition program and/or the PolyTransfer Spring Transition Program (mentee numbers may fluctuate at the discretion of the PolyTransfer coordinator and assistant coordinator). Schedule ~30-minute 1:1 and ~1-hour group meetings with their mentees at specified times during the year. Log formal meeting interactions in CPP Connect as requested and by the deadline(s) assigned. Familiarize yourself with campus/college resources (e.g. 24hr computer lab, websites, etc.). Demonstrate how to navigate and utilize CPP Online Resources (e.g. Canvas, CPP Connect, myCPP, etc.). Refer transfer students to campus departments to resolve issues (e.g. Care Center, Registrar's Office, etc.). Cultivate strong academic habits within all transfer students. Provide mentorship and support to prospective transfer students through participation in transfer student panels, community college site visits, etc. II. Programming Assist Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator with developing program and event logistics (e.g. learning outcomes, scheduling, etc.). Assist Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator with publicizing, setup, facilitation, and takedown of PolyTransfer events. Encourage transfer student participation in programs, events, and services on/off campus. Assist Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator with publicizing PolyTransfer's services via Tabling events on/off campus. Collaborate with campus partners to host, publicize, and attend campus events (e.g. National transfer Student week, preview day, etc.) as directed. Assist the Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator with the creation and publication of social media postings featuring transfer student services (e.g. mentor/mentee program, transfer tips, newsletters, coaching services, etc.). Implement Cal Poly Pomona's Brand Identity into program publicity and documentation. III. Administration Communicate regularly with the PolyTransfer Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator (e.g. mentee/project updates, etc.). Arrive promptly to and actively participate in PolyTransfer meetings and events with appropriate attire and professionalism (e.g. language). Use written (e.g. email/group message) and oral communication (e.g. in-person/phone) as directed. Check voicemail, group messaging, and email at least once daily and respond in a timely manner. Complete projects in a timely manner as directed (e.g. social media postings, event planning, etc.). Utilize a variety of online platforms to complete projects (e.g. Canva, Hootsuite, Mailchimp, etc.). Log and respond to transfer student inquiries as directed (e.g. log/return phone calls, etc.). Facilitate the completion of PolyTransfer Assessment Activities (e.g. event attendance/evaluation, etc.). Maintain an updated Outlook calendar with class schedules, extracurricular activities, and meetings. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient online/physical workspace. Assist in the reporting and maintenance of PolyTransfer inventory levels (e.g. order forms, stocking supplies, noting misuse, etc.). Provide coverage in the Transfer Student Lounge and check-in students as well as maintain cleanliness. IV. Departmental and Institutional Support Assist in the recruitment of PolyTransfer Peer Mentors throughout the academic year. Advocate for basic transfer student needs in collaboration with campus partners (e.g. ASI). Participate in Giving Day by becoming a Student Brand Ambassador for PolyTransfer. Maintain visibility in the PolyTransfer Office as a resource to our transfer student population. V. Training and Professional Development Attend professional development opportunities to improve your mentorship abilities as directed. Attend mandatory trainings to prepare for the PolyTransfer Summer Transition and Advantage Programs. VI. Other Duties as AssignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
: Must be a currently enrolled student at Cal Poly Pomona. Must maintain a 2.0 Cumulative and CPP GPA throughout appointment. Must be enrolled in at least 6 units (undergraduate) or 4 units (graduate) throughout appointment. Must remain in good judicial standing (cannot be on disciplinary probation) throughout appointment. Must be able to work a full academic year with the program. Demonstrated ability to complete administrative tasks independently and in small groups. Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to adapt to dynamic environments and responsibilities. Affinity towards supporting the transfer population. Effective communication skills.PREFERRED
Current Cal Poly Pomona transfer student. Prior experience in leadership or mentoring roles. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and advocacy. Ability to lead groups of people toward a common goal.ABOUT US
