Full-Time Position Summary:
The Seeking Safety Facilitator is responsible for the provision of group sessions with Transition Age Youth (TAY, ages 16-25) in both high school sites and non-stigmatizing community agencies. Seeking Safety is a program that is intended to reduce the duration and harmful effects of trauma for individuals most at risk of developing mental health problems as a result of traumatic experiences. It results in increased resiliency and development of coping strategies for program participants and reduces the need for ongoing services within the mental health system. The program is a present focused coping skills program designed to simultaneously help individuals with a history of trauma and substance abuse.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with school staff and community agencies to provide on-site services 2. Obtain parental consent for student participation. 3. Conduct screenings to assess participant program eligibility. 4. Demonstrate self-awareness, willingness to receive feedback and appropriate professional/personal boundaries. 5. Actively participates in peer supervision and trainings, as needed. 6. Learn program goals and deadlines and ensure that they are met. 7. Demonstrate awareness of transference and countertransference issues and address them as they arise 8. Work closely with Mental Health Programs Director to ensure proper implementation of Seeking Safety program. 9. Complete required documentation thoroughly, neatly and in a timely manner. 10. Communicate and correspond with outside agencies, authorities and institutions in a professional and timely manner 11. Participate in all contract-required trainings throughout the year. 12. Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree is the Social Service field or mental health field. Current driver's license, clean driving record and reliable transportation. Experience working with people who have experienced trauma and/or substance abuse. Willingness and enjoyment in working with this population. A general understanding of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy principles, group processes, substance-related issues, self-injurious behavior and trauma abuse symptoms/responses. Willingness to learn the required documentation, billing paperwork and exhibit a professional level of comfort in working with clients who have experienced trauma. Outgoing personality with outreach experience Work environment:
  • Low to moderate noise level
  • Typical office indoor environment.

Physical Demands:
  • Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer, printer, keyboard etc.
  • Occasional light work that includes moving objects up to 20 lbs., when in office.
  • Travel to community agencies, school sites and other approved locations where TAY youth congregate.
