8,000 total contract fee for the 9-week engagement, funded by the RSI grant About the Program The Summer Mentor Program is an 8-week paid summer experience for 20 high school students based at SALAM Islamic Center in Sacramento. Participants build leadership and professional skills, prepare for college, and contribute to real community projects in a structured, mentored environment. The program runs each summer with a different cohort. We are now hiring a full-time Coordinator to lead the 2026 cohort from start to finish. The Coordinator role spans 9 weeks (June 1 - July 31, 2026): the 8 weeks of student programming, plus additional time at the start and end of the season for setup, onboarding, and wrap-up. The Coordinator is the program — the constant adult presence who teaches, mentors, and manages the cohort every day. About the Role The Coordinator leads the Summer Mentor Program. You will design and run the daily schedule, deliver core curriculum, coordinate guest speakers, supervise project work, support each student's college and career planning, and ensure the program meets its grant objectives. You will be present with the cohort every day the program runs. What You'll Do Cohort leadership and mentorship Lead a cohort of 20 high school students as their daily mentor, teacher, and manager. Set the tone for the program: punctuality, professionalism, respect, and accountability. Coach students one-on-one on goal-setting, work habits, communication, and personal growth. Manage attendance, behavior, conflict resolution, and parent communication when needed. Curriculum and speakers Deliver the program's core curriculum through daily training sessions and afternoon project work blocks. The curriculum is ready to run from prior cohorts — your job is to refine and tailor it to fit the strengths, interests, and needs of the students you have. Identify, recruit, and coordinate guest speakers and workshop facilitators across topics relevant to the cohort (e.g., professional skills, technical workshops, career exploration). Pair each student with a guest speaker or mentor for one-on-one engagement, and prepare students to make the most of those conversations. College and career prep Build and run a college prep track over the 8 weeks: college research, application timeline, essays, financial aid, and interview practice. Help each student articulate goals and a personalized plan for the academic year following the program. Bring in admissions, financial aid, and college-success speakers to complement direct coaching. Hands-on projects Plan, scope, and supervise hands-on projects that contribute to SALAM operations and the surrounding community. Match projects to student strengths and interests; coach teams through scoping, execution, and final presentations. Coordinate with SALAM staff and volunteers whose work the projects intersect with. Program operations and logistics Plan and chaperone the program field trip funded by the RSI grant.Manage program logistics:
supplies, snacks, room setup, technology, and any laptops issued to students. Plan the closing ceremony for students and families. Grant tracking and reporting Track program activities, attendance, student outcomes, and expenses for RSI grant compliance and reporting. Provide weekly updates to the Program Manager and SALAM leadership. Document the program through photos, student reflections, and a closing report. Who We're Looking For Required At least 3 years of relevant experience in one or more of: classroom teaching, school counseling, youth development, college access programs, camp leadership, or nonprofit program management. Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and mentor a group of teens — not just teach content. Strong organizational and project management skills; able to plan a multi-week program and run multiple workstreams in parallel. Confident facilitator and communicator; able to teach curriculum content, lead group discussions, and give and receive feedback well. Experience supporting high school students with college planning (research, applications, essays, financial aid, or comparable advising work). Available in person at SALAM Islamic Center for the full program duration, Monday-Thursday 9:00 AM-4:00 PM, plus prep time outside program hours. Authorized to work in the United States and able to pass a background check (working with minors). Preferred Bachelor's degree in education, social work, nonprofit management, counseling, or a related field. Experience working with high schoolers in a community-based program, school, or after-school setting. Experience with grant-funded programs, including documentation and compliance reporting. Connections to local professionals (educators, counselors, college admissions, employers, community leaders) who could serve as guest speakers. How to Apply To apply, please submit the following: Resume. Cover letter (one page) describing your experience working with high school students, your approach to mentorship, and why this role fits your trajectory. Two references. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Priority consideration for applications received by May 20, 2026 . Position remains open until filled.Similar remote jobs
