Job Description

At Camp Chief Ouray, being a Challenger Cabin Counselor isn't just a job—it's a chance to guide, mentor, and inspire teens during one of the most formative times in their lives. You'll lead a cabin of 13-14-year-olds through meaningful experiences, outdoor adventures, and moments they'll never forget. Why This Role Matters Challenger campers are ready for more independence, deeper connections, and bigger challenges—and you'll be the one helping them rise to it. From leading hikes to facilitating activities, you'll create an environment where teens feel seen, supported, and empowered. What You'll Do Live with and lead a cabin of up to 20 campers, creating a safe, inclusive, and fun environment Build strong relationships and support each camper's social, emotional, and physical well-being Plan and lead engaging activity classes based on camper interests and your strengths Guide campers through new challenges, including all-day hikes and outdoor adventures Collaborate with co-counselors and staff to create a positive, high-energy camp community Observe camper growth and help identify future leadership and program opportunities What You Bring Experience working with teens and a passion for youth development Confidence leading groups in outdoor settings Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills Ability to stay organized, flexible, and calm in a dynamic environment Wilderness First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) A team-first mindset and commitment to creating a safe, welcoming space for all Why Camp Chief Ouray?
