QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Café's mission of promoting an Environment of Radical Hospitality in the context of loving accountability.
  • Cultural competency and interpersonal communications skills necessary to thrive in a diverse work environment.
  • Ability to embody principles of recovery in daily interactions at the Café and in the community.
  • Achieved a minimum of 2 years in sustained recovery from substance use disorder and/or mental illness.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Certified or actively working towards certification as a Peer Specialist with the Florida Certification Board.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in the workplace.
  • Basic computer skills and technology experience.
  • Written and oral communication skills sufficient to communicate effectively internally and externally.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE
Peer Specialist
REPORTS TO
Director of Operations
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Utilizing the Recovery Café Network and Choices Recovery Coach models, provide recovery coaching support to café participants by drawing off lived experiences.
  • On a weekly basis, plan for and facilitate 1-2 recovery circles, and assigned group activities.
  • Develop and maintain a personal and compassionate understanding of the recovery journey (i.e., matters resulting from trauma, addiction, mental health, and/or other struggles such as homelessness).
  • Promote self-advocacy by serving as a role-model to others.
  • Provide continuous support to participants by drawing on motivational interviewing techniques to promote hope and empowerment.
  • Validate participants and help them take responsibility to actively participate in their own recovery.
  • Interview participants and ensure all program paperwork is completed (i.e., intake forms, surveys).
  • Provide information to participants about service options and the process of care.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote a team culture in which everyone's point of view, experiences, and preferences are recognized, understood and respected.
  • Attend weekly supervision meetings to discuss caseload and program priorities.
  • Maintain daily documentation for program reports; have a basic understanding of funding sources and compliance requirements.
  • Attend various meetings and trainings associated with this position.
  • Assist with daily activities and always work to promote the message and services of ReNew Recovery Café.
PERFORMANCE MEASURES
  • Self-care through demonstration of a personal recovery program.
  • Projects completed accurately and on time.
  • Manage or be responsible for assigned Members and Community Partners.
  • Consistently maintain a positive and productive working relationship with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Flexibility, creativity and enthusiasm for ReNew Recovery Café operations.
  • Communicating and upholding the Café's Guiding Principles and Code of Ethics in all endeavors.
