PROGRAMS DIRECTOR - TEEN AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM
About Us We are a small, community-based nonprofit serving youth and families in [Dawsonville / surrounding North Georgia area]. Our afterschool program provides a safe, supportive space for students to learn, grow, and build confidence. Position Summary The Programs Director leads the planning, implementation, and daily operations of a small nonprofit afterschool program. This role is both strategic and hands-on, responsible for delivering high-quality youth programming, supervising a small team, and ensuring a safe, engaging environment for students. The Programs Director often wears multiple hats, including program oversight, staff support, family communication, and basic administrative duties Key Responsibilities Program Management & Delivery Plan and lead daily afterschool programming, including academic support, enrichment, and recreational activities Be actively present during program hours, supporting staff and engaging with students Adapt programming based on student needs, attendance, and available resources Track student participation and basic outcomes Staff Support Supervise a small team of staff Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training Provide day-to-day guidance and support rather than formal layered management Create weekly schedules and ensure coverage Operations & Administration Manage student enrollment, attendance, and parent communication Maintain required records and ensure compliance with funder requirements Oversee basic budgeting, purchasing supplies, and resource management Coordinate snacks, materials, and activity logistics Family & Community Engagement Build strong, positive relationships with families Serve as the main point of contact for parents/guardians Communicate regularly about student progress, events, and program updates Develop partnerships with local schools and community groups Safety & Program Environment Ensure a safe, structured, and inclusive environment Enforce program rules and handle minor behavioral issues Follow safety procedures and respond to incidents appropriately General Support (Small Nonprofit Reality) Assist with grant reporting or basic data collection Support occasional fundraising efforts or events Pitch in wherever needed to keep the program running smoothly Qualifications Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Education, Youth Development, Social Work, or related field 2-4 years of experience working with youth or in afterschool programs Some supervisory or leadership experience preferred Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to be flexible, resourceful, and hands-on in a small team environment Passion for working with youth and supporting their development Preferred Skills Experience in small nonprofits or startups Basic budgeting or administrative experience Familiarity with behavior management strategies Bilingual skills (if relevant to community) Work Schedule Typically weekday afternoons (11 am - 6 pm) Additional hours for planning, administration, and recruitment events
