Y Leaders Program positions are responsible for fostering a sense of belonging in campers, providing opportunities for campers to feel achievement, and helping campers build healthy positive relationships.

$57.14
•64.29/day; Y Camp also provides summer staff with on-site housing, meals, free onsite laundry facilities, fiber optic internet connection, paid training and certification opportunities

•Onsite housing is a requirement for all positions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Create and maintain a safe environment both physically and emotionally for campers and others at Y Camp. Build meaningful relationships with campers, volunteers, parents, co-workers, and others along with being a role model for campers and peers. Contribute to the overall camp experience by actively participating in camp programs, activities, events and daily operations as appropriate to the role. Actively supervises groups of campers and maintains appropriate child to staff ratios. Depending on the assigned role, may organize and lead a variety of small and large group camp activities both independently and with a staff team, such as crafts, nature, songs, games, nature walks, swimming. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures including emergency and safety procedures. Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports and camper documentation. Complete required documentation and communication accurately and in a timely manner, including incident reports, program records or other documentation as required by the position. Promote Y membership and participation in the Des Moines YMCA Camp programs, services and events, Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Ability to communicate effectively across departments. Must be at least 17 years of age by the start of camp programming. Perform basic computer skills such as using the computerized time clock and online training requirements. Previous experience or education in working with children Ability to Obtain Red Cross (or equivalent) CPR/First Aid/AED Certification Child Abuse Prevention Training
•prior to starting if hired and maintained annually. Additional training to be completed prior to arrival at camp and after arrival at camp.

Required to have the ability to perform moderate physical activity, along with lifting up to twenty pounds of weight, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel. Ability to maneuver in a nature or rugged outdoor environment. Ability to work in various environments and adapt to changing working conditions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
