Job Description

The Homicide and Other Violent Crimes (HOVC) Program is looking for a compassionate individual to fill a full-time (32 hours per week) Victim Advocate position in our Fort Dodge location. This position will provide support and advocacy for survivors of homicide, vehicular homicide and victims of other violent crimes such as kidnapping, arson and robbery. This position requires flexibility, including the possibility of changes to working hours with short notice. The position responsibilities include but are not limited to providing support to crime victims through direct and indirect contact, coordinating and facilitating support groups, attending criminal justice proceedings, and designing and implementing awareness events. This position also includes interaction with professional organizations, law enforcement, the media and prosecutorial staff. Occasional public speaking will be required during awareness events and presentations. The HOVC Program covers 15 counties in North Central Iowa with the Fort Dodge office covering 8 counties. Travel with your own personal vehicle and possible overnight stays are required. Mileage and overnight stays at hotels will be at the expense of the employer. This individual will need to be able to deal with highly emotional and crisis situations, while maintaining a professional demeanor. Certification is required and provided by the employer.
