Department 21STCENT SCHOLARS
(BL-TFSS-IUBLA) Department Information Founded in 1995, the IU 21st Century Scholars Program (IUB21CS), administered by the Office of Student Life, is the oldest and largest student support services department in the State of Indiana. The IUB21CS provide financial and academic resources to support, retain, and graduate thousands of 21st Century Scholars recipients at Indiana University Bloomington (IUB). Job Summary The Program Support Specialist works in close collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director for the 21st Century Scholars Program. They provide programmatic support for scholarship students that are from low-and-limited income backgrounds and by definition an underrepresented student population. This work is done by defining program expectations and connecting students to campus resources and activities to ensure a sense of belonging in the university undergraduate student experience. Department Specific Responsibilities Assists students with their college transition into Indiana University. Collects data, documents information, evaluates student progress, maintains appropriate records and renders timely reports. Documents student information regarding student academic progress, course selection, academic concerns, referrals, intended major, academic dismissals, learning disability cases, student withdrawals from the university, and students graduating from the programs. Maintains appropriate recordkeeping, provides timely assessments, and ensures timely reporting of data and metrics. Supports temporary staff, students and volunteers in completing identified assigned tasks. Assists with the planning and implementation of 21st Century Scholars program needs. Co-coordinates and plans activities to achieve STEM Program objectives. Attends meetings, programs, and events related to student advising. Attends programs and training sessions for self- development and continued awareness of enhancement, policies changes, and regulations related to job duties and responsibilities. Required Possesses a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record that is insurable by Indiana University. SKILLS Required Exceptionally strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated excellent speaking, writing, and organizing skills High degree of initiative and enthusiasm and ability to work independently and with others. Ability to speak in front of small groups of students, family members, and/or partners. Ability to work with and assist undergraduate students with multicultural backgrounds and experiences. Ability to function well in a diverse work and service environment. Excellent ability to analyze and problem solve issues while meeting program expectations, university and department policies, guidelines and procedures, and overall compliance. Working knowledge and practical application in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and data base software, graphic design, as well as other applications required for data organization, analysis, and information reporting. Ability to utilize E-mail and web site use. Availability for travel within and across university campuses and evening and weekend events as needed. Ability to utilize fax, phone, copier, printer, scanner, and other general office equipment. Work Location Indiana University Bloomington. This is an in-person position. Advertised Salary $18.50 per hour. Work Hours Maximum of 29 hours per week. Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Some evenings and weekends may be required for student programming needs.
