Executive Director (ED) Position Overview The Program Coordinator for "The Way" is responsible for developing, organizing, and executing a structured Monday and Thursday day program serving adults with cognitive disabilities. This role focuses on teaching life skills, fostering spiritual and mental awareness, and creating meaningful opportunities for community engagement in a safe, inclusive environment. Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Development & Implementation Design and implement a comprehensive 12-month program curriculum, including: Cooking Arts and crafts Life skills development Mental and spiritual awareness Develop and distribute a monthly program calendar that includes: Community outings Special events Guest/community visitors Friends Unlimited activities Birthdays and celebrations Important notes or instructions Create monthly attendance tracking to ensure appropriate mentor-to-participant ratios Prepare take-home communications to keep families and caregivers informed Plan and oversee all community outings, serving as the primary point of contact Evaluate and visit potential outing locations to ensure accessibility and suitability Prepare materials and supplies for all program activities (art, cooking, etc.) Maintain updated emergency contact information and procedures for all participants and mentors Develop and manage a program budget, including expenses, outings, and allocated funds Collaborate with administrative staff to coordinate supply purchases Track and report program progress related to grants, donations, or funded initiatives Mentor Coordination & Leadership Serve as the main liaison between mentors and the Executive Director Recruit, interview, and onboard new volunteers, including: Reviewing applications Conducting background checks Collecting required documentation (e.g., driver's licenses) Manage monthly mentor scheduling and availability Provide clear daily direction to mentors for each program day Ensure adequate mentor coverage for all activities and outings (including transportation needs) Equip mentors with relevant participant information to support engagement and safety Act as a mediator in conflicts involving: Mentor-to-mentor Mentor-to-parent/caregiver Mentor-to-participant ("Friend") Communicate upcoming activities and expectations clearly Plan and facilitate one to two mentor training sessions annually Safety & Communication Coordinate closely with mentors and caregivers to ensure participant safety and well-being Ensure compliance with all safety protocols during programming and outings Maintain clear, consistent communication with all stakeholders (mentors, families, staff) Ideal Candidate Qualities Strong organizational and planning skills Passion for serving individuals with cognitive disabilities Excellent communication and leadership abilities Experience in program development, education, or nonprofit work preferred Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing needs Conflict resolution and team leadership skills
