Provides direct Culturally responsive training for partner/community agencies working with Domestic Violence. This position is responsible for crisis intervention, safety planning, outreach, community education and training on racial equity and inclusion for law enforcement and social service providers and the negative impact implicit and explicit biases can have on responding to victims of domestic violence. The Advocate works both internally and externally collaboratively with advocates and other victim service providers to ensure a seamless response to survivors' needs and the overall community's response as it relates to DV/SA.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct community outreach services to provide African Americans with information regarding the availability of culturally specific advocacy services.
- Utilize trauma focused interventions and supportive advocacy services to increase emotional and physical safety for survivors of color.
- Provide community education and training on racial equity and inclusion for law enforcement and social service providers and the negative impact implicit and explicit biases can have on responding to victims of domestic violence.
- Work with survivors to create, implement, monitor, and update individual safety plan.
- Assist survivors in emergency situations to obtain shelter, financial assistance, and other basic needs.
- Maintain accurate files, progress notes, data entry, submit timely monthly reports and paperwork to meet funder reporting requirements.
- Assist clients with obtaining legal assistance, protection orders, interface with law enforcement and guide victims through multiple systems.
- Networks with other providers to help survivors access community resources specific to their needs.
- Attend continued education training on advocacy based DV counseling for victim/survivors and their children.
- Participate in staff meetings, case conferences and other meetings as needed.
- Provide any and all shelter support as directed by Supervisor Program Director, Executive Director or Chief Executive Officer.

- Bachelor's or master's degree in human services, social work, or related field.
- Previous employment or volunteer work in human services, community agencies or other related nonprofit or social change organizations a plus.
- Demonstrated track record in advocacy, with ability to navigate multiple systems to ensure seamless services.
- Demonstrated respect for others' experiences, opinions, language, values, culture, and knowledge.
- Experience working with culturally diverse populations, primarily African American women and men.
- Ability to navigate and handle complicated situations.
- Desire to empower families from diverse cultures and backgrounds and to work with multi-ethnic survivors.
- Demonstrated knowledge of contributing factors to gender-based violence among African American and other survivors of color, and best practices in addressing their needs to bring about equitable outcomes.
- Commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and exercise good judgement required.
- Demonstrated organizational and outreach skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Position requires the ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends and on-call scheduling.
