Job Description

Instructor Kansas State University $45,000 - $60,000 Annually United States, Kansas, Manhattan 1810 Kerr Drive (Show on map) Apr 20, 2026 About This Role This position begins in Fall 2026 and will teach classes (in-person and online) to students in the English Language Program as they acquire the English needed for pursuing a degree at Kansas State University or pursuing their personal and professional goals. The position will also assist with language assessment and participate in grant-funded projects for external partners as needed.
Teaching duties:
plan and conduct 15 class hours per week (4-5 classes), online or in-person assign, grade, and return student work hold at least one office hour per day maintain records in university systems (Canvas, KSIS, etc.) Program duties: become familiar with ELP and university policies and procedures including tests, curriculum and materials, level placement criteria, testing policies and systems, accreditation requirements, ELP program handbook, and ELP student handbook follow program and university policies attend program meetings assist with curriculum development assist with program testing for incoming students serve on program committees, as needed participate in regular professional development Special programs and outreach duties: assist in writing proposals for grant funding and other projects assist in coordinating activities and events for visiting groups assist in materials and curriculum development for special projects to be delivered in-person or online (past projects have included English for aviation, diplomatic English, technical writing, and courses in content-based instruction with an emphasis on climate change) assist in providing a practicum experience for MA TEFL students Worksite Description This position is On-site. All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho. What You'll Need to
Succeed Minimum Qualifications:
Master's in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) or a closely related field (Applied Linguistics, Language, Literacy, English, Education, etc.) completed or in progress for completion no later than the date of hire. If degree is in something other than MA TESL, documentation must be provided showing formal education/training in teaching methodology, introduction to linguistics, the structure of English, second language acquisition, intercultural communication, and a practicum experience. The degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in teaching ESL Experience working in a university-based Intensive English Program Experience in working with college / university students or adult learners Experience in living / traveling abroad or having a second language Experience in curriculum development and assessment Experience and training in teaching online Experience using the Canvas Learning Management System Familiarity with CEA standards and accreditation processes Experience with teacher professional development activities such as mentoring teachers or teacher trainees, conducting teacher training workshops, or providing direct instruction to pre- or in-service educators.
