Job Description
INNOVIM is seeking a Scientific SME to support NOAA ProTech Weather Agile Program and Project Management Services. This position is contingent upon award of the contract. Position Summary The Scientific SME provides part-time, on-call technical reach-back so the program-management team engages the numerical-weather-prediction teams credibly and evaluates transition readiness against operational needs. The advisor possesses specialized knowledge in a relevant subject area, articulates and applies best practices, and participates as needed in readiness reviews and evidence assessments. The advisor supports, but does not perform, the underlying science or software development. Key Responsibilities Readiness-review support. Advise on stream-specific transition evidence, for example coupled forecast skill (MPAS/UFS), assimilation impact and cycling stability (JEDI-MPAS continuous DA), numerical equivalence and speedup (GPU refactoring), and emulation accuracy and training-data provenance (AI4NWP). Technical literacy. Help facilitators and analysts interpret technical status so program artifacts reflect real research progress versus movement toward operations. Best practices. Articulate and apply subject-area best practices; guide how the program-management capability can resolve coordination needs across the four areas. On-call engagement. Participate in joint NWS readiness reviews and evidence assessments as scheduled, at approximately one-quarter time. Readiness-review support. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or higher in business, management, or a related field. Experience. Five to seven years in a related subject area; recognized source of knowledge or expertise, able to lead or actively participate in a specialized work-group and to participate across the development life cycle. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree preferred in business, management, or a related field. NWP domain depth. Familiarity with numerical weather prediction, data assimilation (JCSDA/JEDI), GPU/HPC, and AI for numerical weather prediction. R2O experience.
