Job Overview Peer Leader Position Overview Program Dates Summer 2026 (July Sessions) Location Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Wayne State University, Downtown Detroit.
Students/Alumni from:
MSU, Wayne State University, and University of Michigan only. Compensation $300 Stipend Per Session About BlueRock Ventures BlueRock Ventures is a college and career leadership immersion organization designed to help high school students connect college, careers, leadership, and professional opportunities throughout Michigan. Students participate in residential campus experiences, leadership development workshops, career pathway programming, professional networking opportunities, and Detroit ecosystem immersion experiences. Position Overview Peer Leaders serve as near-peer mentors and student ambassadors throughout the BlueRock experience. Peer Leaders help create a positive, engaging, and supportive environment while assisting students as they explore college life, leadership development, career pathways, and future opportunities. This role is ideal for current college students, recent graduates, resident assistants, student leaders, orientation leaders, and individuals passionate about mentorship and youth development.
Responsibilities Peer Leaders will:
Welcome and support students throghout the program Lead small student groups Facilitate icebreakers and team-building activities Assist with student check-in and orientation Share personal college experiences and advice Support networking events and mentor sessions Participate in campus tours and activities Facilitate reflection discussions Encourage student engagement and participation Serve as positive role models throughout the program Career Pathways Peer Leaders may be assigned to support one of the following pathways: Business, Entrepreneurship & Finance Topics include: Entrepreneurship Finance Corporate leadership Marketing Economic development Law, Government, Communications, & Media Leadership Topics include: Law Public Policy Government Journalism Sports communications Public relations Media and marketing STEM, Healthcare & Innovation Topics include: Engineering Technology Artificial Intelligence Healthcare Innovation and startups Preferred Qualifications Ideal candidates may have experience in: Student Government Orientation programs Resident assistant roles Peer mentorship Leadership organizations Campus involvement Youth development programs Education or coaching Candidates should demonstrate: Strong communication skills Professionalism Leadership ability Reliability Positive attitude Commitment to student success Time Commitment Peer Leaders should be available for: Pre-program training Full participation during assigned session(s) Student activities and networking events Program debrief and evaluation Benefits Peer Leaders will: Gain leadership experience Develop mentorship skills Expand their professional network Work alongside business, nonprofit, and community lraders Support college and career access efforts Receive a BlueRock Ventures Peer Leadership Certificate Earn a program stipend Our Ideal Peer Leader A Peer Leader is someone who remembers what it was like to be a high school student preparing for college and is excited to help the next generation navigate that journey with confidence, curiosity, and purpose.
