9:30AM-5:30PM Job description The Boys and Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth is searching for a dynamic leader to join our team as Director of Programs! We are looking for a candidate who believes in our mission and has a passion in making a difference in the lives of youth. The ideal candidate is very organized, has excellent communication skills (verbal & written) and the ability to multi-task.PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Direcotr of Programs provides leadership, oversight, and support for The Boys & Girls Club's school-based programs. This position is responsible for ensuring school sites provide safe, high-quality, engaging programs that align with organizational standards, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) priorities, school partner expectations, and the needs of youth and families. In addition to school site oversight, the Director of Programs may lead or coordinate organization-wide program initiatives, including BGCA programming, workforce development, partnerships with outside organizations, special initiatives, and other programs as assigned. Key Roles Provide overall leadership and oversight for all school-based Boys & Girls Club programs. Regularly visit school sites to observe programming, provide support, assess program quality, and maintain visibility with staff and school partners. Directly supervise School Site Directors and School Site Leads, and fill in during their absences as needed. Support School Site Directors and Leads in developing schedules, program rotations, activities, and special events. Monitor site enrollment, attendance, participation, staffing, and program capacity. Support the development and expansion of school-based programming as opportunities arise. Ensure school sites are appropriately staffed and work with site leadership to address staffing needs and coverage. Ensure accurate and timely collection of attendance, membership, program participation, and other required data at school sites. Monitor program data and use information to identify trends, evaluate performance, and support program improvement. Assist with data collection and reporting for grants, BGCA requirements, school partnerships, and organizational initiatives. Monitor school site budgets and program expenditures as assigned. Maintain awareness of school-specific emergency and safety procedures and ensure staff understand expectations. Ensure all programs are operated in accordance with Boys & Girls Club policies, procedures, safety standards, grant requirements, and applicable school requirements. Support site leadership with significant member behavior concerns, parent concerns, and other complex program situations. Promote collaboration and communication between school site staff and other Boys & Girls Club programs and departments. Support implementation of BGCA programs, evidence-informed practices, and organizational program priorities across Boys & Girls Club locations. Promote trauma-informed, relationship-based, and developmentally appropriate approaches to working with youth. Coordinate outside program partners to ensure services align with organizational expectations and member needs. Identify opportunities to expand or strengthen programming through community partnerships and available resources. Assist with special events, organization-wide programming, teen initiatives, leadership programs, and other strategic program priorities. Represent The Boys & Girls Club professionally in meetings with schools, community partners, families, and other stakeholders. Promote a culture in which youth safety is a shared and consistent responsibility. Additional Responsibilities Participate in organizational leadership and program meetings. Attend required staff meetings, trainings, professional development opportunities, and BGCA trainings. Assist with organization-wide staff training and professional development. Participate in Club events, special programs, community events, and occasional evening or weekend activities as needed. Support Club-based programs and leadership when organizational needs require additional assistance. Maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and resources related to youth development, after-school programming, and school-based programs. Maintain confidentiality regarding members, families, employees, and organizational information. Model organizational values and maintain professional conduct when interacting with youth, families, staff, schools, and community partners. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, recreation, social work, nonprofit management, youth development, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Minimum of three years of experience working in youth development, education, after-school programming, or a related setting preferred.
- Previous supervisory or program management experience required.
- Knowledge of youth development principles and developmentally appropriate programming for school-age youth and teens.
- Ability to manage multiple sites, priorities, projects, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build effective relationships with school administrators, community partners, staff, youth, and families.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyze program needs and develop practical solutions.
- Ability to plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate quality youth programs.
- Ability to respond effectively to challenging youth behaviors, staff concerns, parent concerns, and program emergencies.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with the Director of Operations and other organizational leadership.
- Proficiency with standard computer applications and ability to learn organizational data and program management systems.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain certification within the required timeframe.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet organizational driving requirements.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly between school sites and other Boys & Girls Club locations.

The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to moderate in office setting to moderate and usually loud in recreation and play settings when children are present. All employees working directly with children at all Boys & Girls Club of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth locations may be required to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions.Job Type:
