POSITION SUMMARY
The Sports Program Lead is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising youth and adult sports programs at the YMCA. This role ensures that leagues, clinics, camps, and special events are delivered in a safe, engaging, and high-quality environment that aligns with the YMCA's mission and values. The Sports Program Lead works closely with staff, volunteers, coaches, officials, participants, and community partners to create positive recreational and competitive experiences for all participants.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plan, schedule, and manage assigned seasonal sports leagues, clinics, camps, and special events. Assist the Sports Director with program development and implementation. Develop age-appropriate program structures, practice plans, schedules, and league rules. Coordinate facility and equipment usage to ensure programs run smoothly. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer coaches, officials, and program staff. Provide guidance and support to volunteers and staff while promoting YMCA values. Conduct staff meetings and assist with training and development opportunities. Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for all participants and families. Address participant and parent questions, concerns, and feedback in a professional and timely manner. Support participant engagement and retention through quality programming and customer service. Maintain accurate program records, registrations, attendance, and participant information. Assist with budgeting, purchasing equipment and supplies, and managing program expenses. Prepare reports and program evaluations for leadership as needed. Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, procedures, and risk management practices. Build and maintain positive relationships with participants, families, schools, and community partners. Support marketing and promotional efforts to increase program awareness and participation. Represent the YMCA in a professional manner at community events and activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Education, or a related field preferred. Experience coordinating youth sports, recreation programs, or related activities. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to supervise staff and volunteers effectively. CPR, First Aid, and other YMCA-required certifications (or ability to obtain upon hire). Ability to work evenings, weekends, and seasonal schedules as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to stand, walk, and actively participate in sports and recreational activities for extended periods. Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
