Job Description

Responsibilities/Job Description:
Fairview is hiring a ECMO Coordinator to join our team at our University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN. The ECMO Coordinator is responsible for the planning, education, and coordination of the ECMO program, including departmental collaboration, staff development, and support of ECMO services across multidisciplinary teams. This role reports directly to the ECMO Program Manager and collaborates closely with the ECMO Medical Directors, Cardiac Perfusionists, and multidisciplinary care teams to support standards of practice and patient care consistent with international ECMO standards. The ECMO Coordinator provides ongoing education, simulation training, competency validation, and clinical support to ECMO staff while promoting quality improvement and evidence-based practice within the ECMO program.
Schedule :
This position will be working 1.0 FTE (80 hours every two weeks). Monday-Friday 7:00 am-3:30 pm. The role requires some evenings and weekends at times throughout the year.

As an ECMO Coordinator you will have: Administrative Responsibilities Maintain the ELSO Registry, including data entry, communication with the ELSO organization, and review/correction of submitted reports. Maintain ECMO program database information including patient volumes, outcomes, and prepare annual reports for program leadership. Develop, review, and revise ECMO-specific policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines. Conduct quarterly ECMO simulations and competency assessments and maintain records. Participate in the evaluation process for ECMO specialists related to ECMO practice responsibilities. Provide monthly continuing education opportunities for ECMO specialists. Support quality improvement initiatives, incident review processes, and risk management activities related to ECMO services. Prepare and distribute monthly ECMO newsletters and program updates. Clinical Responsibilities Serve as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team in the management of ECMO patients. Maintain advanced clinical expertise in ECMO care and current evidence-based practices. Support the safe operation and coordination of highly specialized ECMO equipment. Monitor and support clinical competency of ECMO team members. Education and Training Responsibilities Design and deliver ECMO education and training programs for physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, respiratory therapists, perfusionists, and ECMO specialists. Develop and maintain a comprehensive ECMO training program, including: ECMO specialist candidate interviews Initial orientation and onboarding Ongoing competency updates Introduction of new equipment and technologies Practice development initiatives Bedside preceptor oversight Provide educational offerings through lectures, simulation-based learning, and hands-on training opportunities. Develop physician-level ECMO orientation and educational courses for new providers. Evaluate staff performance and provide feedback during simulation drills and high-risk clinical scenarios. Participate in regional, national, and international
ECMO/ECLS
educational meetings and conferences as appropriate. Participate in outreach education for referring hospitals and external partners as requested. Research and present ECMO and critical care topics at professional meetings and educational forums.
Required Education Nurse Track:
Bachelor's in nursing (BSN)
OR Respiratory Therapist Track:
Graduate from a CoARC or JCRTE approved program in Respiratory Therapy and a bachelor's degree.
OR Perfusion Track:
Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) certification from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Required Experience Minimum of 5 years of clinical ECMO experience Minimum of 5 years of Critical Care experience Required Licensure/Certifications Current Respiratory Therapy License through the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Current BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications Preferred Education Masters in related Health Care field Preferred Experience 10 or more years of clinical ECMO experience Preferred Certification Adult ECMO Practitioner Certification (E-AEC)
Qualifications:
$50.10- $70.73 Hourly
