DEFINITION
Performs complex activities to develop and maintain medication assistance programs for the Missoula community, in conjunction with a variety of health organizations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE:
Considerable knowledge of Patient Assistance Programs. Working knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and pharmacy operating systems. Working knowledge of medical terminology. Basic knowledge of the legal aspects of the practice of pharmacy, and PHC policy regarding prescribing and dispensing medication. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of HIPAA compliance. Working knowledge of the PHC Corporate Compliance Guidelines.
SKILLS:
Skill in the use of personal computer (word-processing, spreadsheet, database; Pioneer, Meddata; Rx Assist, and other pharmacy computer programs/software; Epic or other electronic medical record systems).
ABILITIES
Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, orally and in writing. Ability to identify needs, analyze problems, collect data and develop solutions to solve problems. Ability to meet the public and to work effectively with low-income individuals. Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and groups, and to facilitate group processes to produce constructive outcomes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Requires P.T.C.B. certification and Pharmacy Technician license issued by the State of Montana Board of Pharmacy.
EXPERIENCE
Requires three years of experience as a pharmacy technician. Experience working with pharmaceutical manufacturers or patient assistance programs required. Documentation of Pharmacy Technician training will be accepted as the equivalent of one year of pharmacy technician experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires immunizations or proof of immunity to certain infectious diseases and a TB test. Healthcare Professional BLS Certification is required within 90 days of employment. New employees will be asked to volunteer vaccination status for required vaccines upon hire and will be offered assistance during hiring to receive necessary immunizations. Employees who have not received the vaccines required for their positions or who are unwilling to voluntarily provide vaccination status for required vaccines will receive a reasonable accommodation where such accommodation does not require an undue hardship or endanger the health or safely of any person. Subject to a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
REPRESENTATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Works with various organizations including Partnership Health Center (PHC) and Providence St. Patrick Hospital to plan, develop and operate medication assistance programs and to train others in the program operations. Develops written operational policies for each program; ensures compliance with policies; and proper reporting of program results. Educates health care providers about the Medication Assistance Program. Provides staff support to the Pharmacy Work Group by arranging meetings, taking notes, preparing meeting minutes, presenting monthly reports and new policies. Interviews patients to determine financial eligibility for patient assistance programs; and completes applications with qualified patients. Acts as liaison between health care providers and patients to facilitate the extensive patient assistance program application process. Maintains medication records for patients involved in the Medication Assistance Program using an Electronic Medical Record System. Completes applications for bulk medication donations from various company programs. Assists Pharmacy Directors and administrative and professional personnel to carry out administrative details for the Medication Assistance Program and the pharmacy. Composes a variety of correspondence and reports. Maintains files of correspondence, forms, reports and other materials.
OTHER DUTIES
Performs related work as required or directed.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the PHC Pharmacy Directors.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Serves as lead worker to train and monitor the work of volunteers and students.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Has numerous contacts with health care providers and staff, other partners in the program and employees of Providence St. Patrick Hospital. Works with Clinical Pharmacy staff and students from the School of Pharmacy at the University of Montana.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
The work is commonly performed in an office setting. May require occasional light lifting (up to 20 lbs). Must be able to work in multiple settings in different locations. The employee may risk exposure to communicable diseases. This position is not eligible for remote work and may include regular nights and weekends, including Saturday clinic.
