Goals:
To provide leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum and instruction for exceptional children.
Qualifications:
Hold at least a bachelor's degree Master's Degree in Special Education from an accredited institution and/or state graduate certificate in an area of special education preferred; 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience required Must possess valid NC certification in the area of Exceptional Children in one or more specialty areas Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the
NC Department of Motor Vehicles Essential Job Functions:
Provides leadership in assigned areas of the Exceptional Children's Program. Supports Occupational Course of Study teachers Visits schools to assess the effectiveness of instruction and compliance with state and federal regulations. Advises the exceptional children's program administrators on the status of the program including curriculum, instruction and personnel. Advises teachers and principals regarding selections of materials and equipment. Identifies exemplary educational practices and shares information with teachers. Helps develop teacher's skills in diagnostic-prescriptive techniques to ensure that exceptional children's needs are addressed and remediation goals and objectives are written and implemented. Assists with the planning and implementation of a comprehensive system of staff development for teachers in assigned areas. Observes teachers as requested by principals. Chairs/serves on curriculum and other special project committees. Assists with reviewing and evaluating cases and IEP's for compliance and quality. Ensures awareness of program compliance requirements for teachers in assigned areas. Assists in federal and/or state compliance monitoring activities. Monitors and coordinates resources that may include material allocations (funds), transportation and facilities to ensure program needs are met within each school. Performs other duties as assigned. Position is housed at an Elementary School.
