Associate Dean of Academics-Special Education Director Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Special Education or related field preferred, NHED certification as a Special Education Teacher. Profile of a Special Education Program Coordinator The Special Education Program Coordinator is an educational leader in the special education department at Pinkerton Academy who assists with implementing the school's mission and vision. The Special Education Program Coordinator works as part of the special education leadership team to support special education teams and students in the various special education programs at Pinkerton Academy. Along with the other program coordinators and special education leadership team, the Special Education Program Coordinator is a support for special education staff, a conduit for communication with the sending districts, and an advocate for providing students with what they need to be successful. Furthermore, the Special Education Program Coordinator is responsible for following the policies and procedures outlined in the employee handbook and serving as a leader in all aspects of academic life at the Academy. A visible presence in the Pinkerton community, program coordinators forge positive relationships with stakeholders on campus and in the greater school community. Essential Skills and Abilities of a Special Education Program Coordinator Student Programming Support students and staff in PASSES, ACT, and NECC. Assist with coordinating meetings for current students and students transferring from other schools and placements into PASSES, ACT, and NECC. Collaborate with sending town educators in developing IEPs, problem solving difficult situations, communicating when appropriate about student placement, and making recommendations for incoming students. Facilitate special education meetings Conduct regular walk-throughs of special education programs focusing on PASSES, ACT, and NECC to ensure successful daily operations. Write initial IEPs when necessary. Personnel Support Support and mentor new staff with IEP writing, specialized instruction, classroom management, data collection, and progress monitoring. Uses NHSEIS to monitor compliance and supports case coordinators to maintain and update IEPs that are aligned with state standards. Assist with program para evaluations as assigned by the Special Education Director and provide feedback on staff evaluations. Assist in coordinating shared technology for case coordinators to be able to access instruction and data collection. Monitor special education teacher common planning meetings and assist with professional growth. Provide support to special education teachers with case management and classroom instruction. Clarifies school policies and procedures. Administrative Responsibilities Demonstrate knowledge of educational law regarding special education. Remain current on changes to state and federal statutes. Attend and assist at events such as but not limited to Course Night and Parent Night. Communicate with the sending districts regarding student concerns. Attend and participate in special education leadership meetings. Inform students, faculty, and community members of the programs within the department. Receive and distribute departmental correspondence. In partnership with the director and assistant director, act as liaison between constituent groups and faculty. Assist with registration meetings during the summer months. Host visitors to the department and assist with public relations, such as Course Night and Open House. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Uphold confidentiality regarding student life and school matters in general. Operate a variety of office equipment and technology in an educational environment. Communicate effectively with various platforms to audiences both internal and external to Pinkerton. Identify and analyze a variety of problems and situations drawing evidence-based conclusions. Attend events outside the regular school day as determined by the Director or Dean of Support Services.
