Job Description

Objective The Essex County Office of Public Health Management is seeking a qualified and motivated Full-Time CEHA Inspector to support environmental health enforcement and compliance activities. The selected candidate will assist with inspections, investigations, and regulatory oversight in accordance with NJDEP and State Sanitary Code requirements, while contributing to the overall public health mission of the County. Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of regulated facilities to ensure compliance with NJDEP Air Pollution Control regulations, N.J.A.C. 7:27
  • Investigate environmental complaints related to air quality, air pollution, and other public health concerns
  • Conduct inspections of county vendors to ensure compliance with
N.J.A.C. 8
24, New Jersey State Sanitary Code for Retail Food Establishments
  • Provide guidance and education to facility operators regarding regulatory compliance and best practices
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, enforcement documentation, and compliance summaries
  • Support additional public health and environmental health activities as assigned by ECOPHM Qualifications
  • Experience in environmental health, air pollution control, solid waste, or retail food inspections preferred
  • Knowledge of NJDEP regulations and New Jersey Sanitary Code requirements is highly desirable
  • Strong report writing and communication skills
  • Ability to conduct field inspections and interact professionally with regulated entities
  • Relevant certifications are a plus
  • Active REHS (Registered Environmental Health Specialist) license is strongly preferred Additional Information
