The Research Foundation for The State University of New York (RF) is the largest comprehensive university-connected research foundation in the country. Separate from SUNY, the RF is able to form partnerships that enhance SUNY's education, research, and public service mission, and spur economic development across New York State. The primary service offered by the RF is sponsored programs administration. The infrastructure in place for sponsored programs allows for RF to also administer agency funds and assist campuses with establishing affiliated corporations.Job Description:
STEP is a New York State Education Program that provides academic support services and enrichment activities to students in grade 7-12 who show interest and aptitude in STEM or licensed professions. STEP students acquire the skills necessary for successful entry into college and science, engineering, technology, health-related fields and licensed professions. STEP offers academic programs, enrichment activities and support services aimed at enhancing the skills and competencies necessary for students in grades 7-12 for entry into college-level programs in Science, Engineering, Technology, Health Sciences and licensed professions. The academic programs offered by STEP include lab-based instruction in such areas as Mathematics, Biosciences, Physical Sciences, Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Computer Programming and applications, Robotics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Technologies, Aviation Management Technology and written communication. The enrichment programs of STEP include college-level courses, in-school tutorials in mathematics and sciences, team work and leadership development opportunities as well as hands-on projects in science and engineering technologies. The support services offered by STEP include academic counseling and advising, college entry test preparation, arrangements for summer internships, field trips to industry sites and academic institutions and opportunities for participation in regional conferences. The STEP Academy Assistant will support the successful operation of the Saturday STEP Academy by assisting faculty, staff, and students throughout the program. This role is ideal for undergraduate students interested in education, STEM disciplines, youth development, or leadership experience. Assistants play a critical role in creating a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment.Responsibilities:
Supervise and support STEP students during Saturday Academy sessions. Assist professors with STEM classroom activities, demonstrations, and hands-on projects. Help students understand and apply STEM concepts through guided support and tutoring. Serve as an additional chaperone during off-campus field trips and enrichment events. Assist staff during student pick-up and drop-off procedures to ensure safety and organization. Support staff during lunchtime and transitions between sessions. Maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure smooth program operations.Work schedule:
8:30 am to 2:30 pm; expected to work a total of 10 Saturdays.Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current undergraduate student at Farmingdale State College. Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills. Ability to be punctual, responsible, and engaged during program hours.ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Interest in STEM fields, youth programs, or education. Experience working with youths.Additional Information:
