Monthly Position Summary:
The NDA Intern supports the daily operations of an after-school program serving school-aged youth. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience working with children in a structured, educational, and recreational environment. The intern assists staff with program activities, supervision, and administrative tasks while gaining exposure to youth development practices. The NDA intern will work collaboratively with the Program Manager and other staff to ensure participants gain new skills and meaningful experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Follow program policies, safety procedures, and behavior management guidelines Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and students Model appropriate behavior and support positive social interactions Assist in planning and facilitating educational, recreational, and enrichment activities Supervise students during program hours, transitions, and outdoor play Support homework help, tutoring, and academic enrichment activities Promote a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all participants Help manage classroom materials, supplies, and activity setup/cleanup Assist with attendance tracking and basic program documentation
Qualifications Required Qualifications/Commitment:
High school diploma or currently enrolled in high school, college, or a related program (Education, Social Work, Child Development, Community Service, etc.) Interest in working with children and youth (ages 5 - 14) Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team Dependable, punctual, and responsible Ability to pass background checks as required Available to attend all training sessions (in-person and online), and orientation Available to work during the after-school hours, Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, 3 hours per week
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
May be required to go up and down stairs. May have to lift or move objects, small furniture, or other program materials. This role may require occasional engagement with community members and partners outside of the physical worksite, including attendance at off-site events, meetings, or outreach activities. Ability to stand, walk, and actively engage with children Ability to lift up to 25 lbs as needed
