Roles & Responsibilities Reports to: Youth Programs Liaison
OUR STORY
Brooklyn Boulders (BKB) has been building community since 2009 to create a space where climbers, creatives, artists, and fitness enthusiasts all find their home. Connection is at the heart of everything we do, and our Youth Belay Staff shape some of the most meaningful connections that happen in this building.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Someone who thrives under pressure, genuinely connects with kids and adults alike, and wants to have fun doing it. You think on your feet, take ownership of the experience around you, and bring real energy to every program. How You'll Spend Your Time Focus Area Approx. Time Youth instruction, program facilitation, and direct participant engagement 70% Risk management, safety monitoring, and facility upkeep 20% Family engagement, check-in/out, and inviting participants back 10% These percentages are subject to change based on program schedule, facility occupancy, and seasonal demand.
YOU WILL
Program Facilitation & Youth Engagement Lead groups through BKB Kids programming, following curriculum guidelines and recommending improvements to the Youth Programs Manager as needed Keep participants engaged, assess skill levels, and guide them to appropriate terrain Engage with youth and their families positively, energetically, and genuinely — and always invite them back and educate them about next steps Act as an enthusiastic ambassador for BKB Kids and the sport of climbing Check-In, Safety & Risk Management Ensure smooth participant check-in and check-out per Youth Program Standards, including waiver completion and full payment confirmation Get groups into harnesses and shoes, review facility rules, and manage all on-wall risk: falling climbers, belaying, bouldering, and group dynamics Follow BKB and Youth Program standards for incident reporting and emergency response Limit personal cell phone use to timing, curriculum review, and program photography only Facility & Team Return all program and rental equipment in an orderly fashion and leave every area better than you found it Support fellow team members and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement — especially for the kids All other duties as required
YOU HAVE
A genuine desire to work with youth and positively impact their experience Availability of 10-15 hours per week, including weekdays 3:30-6:30pm, weekends, and holidays Background in customer-facing roles Experience working with youth Climbing and belay experience preferred
