Job Description

The Arc Greater Hudson Valley is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to providing support and services to over 1,800 people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and to their families in Sullivan, Orange and Dutchess Counties, New York. A chapter of The Arc New York, our main offices are located at 162 East Broadway in Monticello, NY. Job Summary:
The Specialist will be responsible for enhancing person-centered activities that promote meaningful engagement, personal fulfillment, and community inclusion for individuals supported in the Day Habilitation program. The role emphasizes fostering social capital, expanding community connections, and supporting individuals in achieving their desired outcomes. Activities will be guided by individual preference and Personal Outcome Measures (POM) interview results to ensure alignment with each individual's goals and interests. The Specialist will coordinate special events, facilitate creative programming, and collaborate with community organizations to create inclusive opportunities for meaningful participation.
Responsibilities:
1. Research and implement meaningful, person-centered community integration opportunities tailored to individual interests and goals. 2. Successfully complete POM Interviewer training within 6 months of hire, and conduct the required number of POM Interviews per month as detailed on the department plan. 3. Develop and coordinate inclusive large-scale special events that encourage participation from both program sites and the broader community. 4. Lead the development of a Day Habilitation newsletter, ensuring representation of all three counties and highlighting achievements, success stories, and creative contributions of individuals. 5. Support self-advocacy groups in organizing events, community engagement opportunities, and advocacy trips, empowering individuals to express their voices and rights. 6. Design and facilitate creative and inclusive programming, including art, music, theater, and talent showcases, providing training to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to enhance program delivery. 7. Collaborate with program management and individuals to assess needs and interests, using POM interview results to inform the development of activities and opportunities. 8. Establish partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community resources to expand opportunities for inclusion and engagement.
Qualifications:
The Specialist will have at least three years working with people with disabilities will take advance education in place of experience in the field.
Basic English language skills:
reading, writing, speaking, and knowing arithmetic and mathematical concepts with which to adequately and effectively perform job duties and responsibilities. Ability to negotiate, exercise leadership, work with a diverse population, teach new skills, serve individuals, and participate as a team member. Ability to understand, interpret, convey, and implement instructions and directions.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to assist in lifting up to 50 lbs, transferring, or repositioning of individual as needed . ALL123
