$16.00/hour

Pre-Freshman Summer Program- Student Assistant Position Description:
The HEOP Pre-Freshman Summer Program is a four-week, non-credit academic and enrichment experience designed to prepare incoming HEOP students for a successful transition to college. HEOP will hire two Student Assistants (SAs) who will play a vital role in supporting students academically, socially, and personally throughout the program. Student Assistants will provide tutoring, peer counseling, residential supervision, and leadership during academic, outdoor, social, and recreational activities. Training and planning sessions will be provided by the HEOP Director, Summer Program Coordinator, HEOP Student Success Coach, and other campus partners. Students arrive on Sunday, July 5, 2026 . Classes begin Monday, July 6, 2026 , and the program concludes Friday, July 31, 2026 . Student Assistants will remain on campus until all students have departed, no later than August 1, 2026 . Primary Responsibilities Program Leadership & Student Support Report directly to the HEOP Director and Summer Program Coordinator. Provide peer counseling and guidance to students adjusting to college life. Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, strong communication skills, and a positive attitude toward all aspects of the program. Foster an inclusive, respectful, and equitable environment by valuing diverse perspectives, practicing active listening, and upholding non-discrimination principles. Academic Support Provide tutoring in math, writing, and other subjects as needed. Attend pre-freshman classes and academic support hours during weekdays and evenings. Work weekend hours as needed. Maintain accurate daily records of tutoring and counseling interactions. Program Activities & Engagement Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings. Assist faculty with outdoor lab trips, which may include hiking and canoeing. Provide leadership and participate in evening and weekend social and recreational activities. Residential Responsibilities Reside in the residence hall with program participants. Assist with supervision and promote a positive, safe, and supportive living environment. Help enforce community standards related to safety, maintenance, and program policies. Additional Duties Perform other responsibilities as assigned by HEOP professional staff. Compensation & Benefits Room and board are provided for the duration of the program. Program covers expenses for evening and weekend activities. This is a 4-week position , paid at minimum wage , with overtime included as applicable.
