Youth Program Coordinator Center for Teen Empowerment Rochester, NY Job Details Full-time $44,500 - $49,000 a year 5 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Professional development assistance Qualifications Teamwork Administrative experience High school diploma or GED Attention to detail Conflict management Full Job Description The Center for Teen Empowerment (TE) employs, trains, and empowers youth to, in collaboration with adults, create peace, equity, and justice through a unique, asset-based youth organizing program in Boston, Somerville, MA, and Rochester, NY. TE employs youth to identify the most pressing issues in their communities and develop strategies to address those issues, engaging many of their peers. TE's work is based on the acclaimed, interactive Teen Empowerment Model, a system that builds the leadership skills of youth and trains them to do the planning and problem-solving necessary to make a meaningful impact on their communities and the issues that affect their lives. TE Rochester is hiring a program coordinator to use their skills and professional experience in both group and individual settings to help youth ages 14-19 realize and actualize their leadership potential. Program coordinators work as part of a team to provide youth organizers with the training, understanding, and logistical support needed to reach individual goals, facilitate positive community change, and challenge social oppression.
Responsibilities:
Co-facilitate daily youth organizer group sessions utilizing the TE Model. Train youth organizers in leadership and social change skills, including community building, feedback, communication, facilitation, conflict resolution, event planning, and civic engagement. Manage youth organizers to plan and implement large and small community events and initiatives Advocate on behalf of youth to ensure their well-being and success including connecting them to resources and opportunities. Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders, including partners, parents, and trusted adults to support program participants. Assist youth in creating and performing original, socially conscious artistic content. Perform administrative duties as assigned, including youth timesheets, data tracking, documentation, and reporting.
Competencies:
Commitment to and understanding of positive youth development approaches, community engagement strategies, and systemic change. Demonstrated group facilitation skills. Interactive agenda design is a plus. Proven success in building positive relationships with people of diverse backgrounds, especially those from historically marginalized communities. Strong oral and written communication, including conflict resolution and mediation skills. Arts, music, theater, poetry, or similar experience is a plus. Experience with violence prevention and intervention in an urban setting is a plus Experience developing, operating, and managing youth programs preferred. Self-motivated. Able to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines. Excellent attention to detail. Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. College degree or equivalent relevant work experience preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other digital platforms. Access to reliable transportation as needed for program work. Familiarity with Rochester neighborhoods and youth issues (preferred).
