Job Summary Under general supervision, you'll build and maintain the plans, training, and volunteer readiness that keep Westchester County prepared for public health emergencies, from infectious disease outbreaks to weather disasters and bioterrorism threats. You'll work closely with municipalities, state and federal agencies, and community partners, and may supervise a small support staff.

What You'll Do:

Draft, develop and maintain public health emergency response plans, and integrate them with department functions; Coordinate with local municipalities, volunteer organizations, and state and federal agencies on emergency response planning; Recruit and organize volunteers to ensure adequate staffing during emergency response situations; Design and maintain tracking systems for public health emergency equipment and supplies; Plan and conduct training programs and exercises to test emergency response plans and staff readiness; Respond to the Westchester County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to support the Public Health Group in the Operations Branch as needed; Respond and coordinate activities related to mitigation of public health emergencies, including but not limited to: points of distribution (POD), mass vaccinations centers (MVC), county staging sites (CSS), mass testing sites, family assistance centers, etc. Assist with public health emergency public information and community education efforts, including establishment of an event-specific call center.

REQUIREMENTS

An Associate degree and either: (a) four years of paid or verifiable volunteer experience

•as an emergency responder, or (b) four years of experience in emergency preparation, mitigation, response and/or recovery for a government entity or (c) a satisfactory combination of both.

SUBSTITUTIONS

Satisfactory completion of 30 college credits toward a Bachelor's degree may substitute for up to two years of the required experience, and a Master's degree in Emergency Management may substitute for the full experience requirement.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

: Valid NY State Driver's License.

SPECIAL NOTE

Emergency activities of this position may require work outside of normal hours, including holidays, weekends, early mornings, late nights, and overnight.

NY HELPS

This title has been approved to be filled without the need to take a civil service examination for a limited period through the

NY HELPS

Program. Candidates who are hired under the HELPS program appointed to this title will be appointed on a permanent basis.
