Job Description

The Writing Associate Program at Oberlin College invites applications for a Full-Time non-continuing professional staff position in the College of Arts and Sciences. The position is a 10-month, one-year appointment, beginning August 1, 2026. The Writing and Communication Department at Oberlin College is searching for a Writing Associates Program Coordinator to work directly with the directors, faculty, writing and speaking associates, and other students in supporting and developing the Writing and Speaking Associates Program in both its day-to-day activities and longer-term commitments. The successful candidate must be a recent Oberlin College graduate who was active in the Writing Associates Program as a student. Responsibilities The Writing Associates Fellow will: consult with Writing and Communication faculty in overseeing the Writing and Speaking Associates Program including the day-to-day administration of the Writing and Speaking Center, scheduling, record-keeping, and maintaining resources. Additionally, the Fellow will organize and help plan regular staff meetings with WAs and SWAs; act as a mentor and support for the WAs and SWAs; collect WA preference forms; and assist Writing and Communication faculty in assessing aspects of the program. Reporting to the Director of the Writing Program, the WAP Coordinator's other duties may include but are not limited to: supporting the Writing and Speaking Associates Program; helping to develop programs to promote and support the WAP, such as classroom visits and Write-In/Anti-Procrastination Days; and communicating with administrative offices, faculty members, alumni, and students with whom the Writing Associates Program interacts on a regular basis. Essential Job Functions Coordinate Writing Center and Speaking Center schedule and staffing Manage WC Online and oversee day-to-daytime Writing and Speaking Center activities Organize meetings for Writing Associates/SWAs Prepare Writing Associate Program (WAP) events Assess aspects of the WAP and Speaking Program Work with faculty on WAP issues Work with Speaking Associates Support the teaching of oral communication with workshop planning Marginal Job Functions Create, design, and distribute posters Maintain resources and web pages Maintain social media presence Maintain WA Journal Required Qualifications B.A. or B.M. from Oberlin College; experience as a Writing Associate at Oberlin College Desired Qualifications Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills; excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; flexibility and the capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently; the ability to work independently and as part of a team; the ability to represent Oberlin College and the program in a professional manner. Compensation Within the range established for this position, salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes an excellent benefits package.
