Onsite About Us We are a Reggio-inspired, constructivist early childhood center. Our non-profit school is located at three beautiful campuses in Southeast Portland, Oregon. Since 1984, our early childhood education center has served a diverse population of children and families, focusing on the development of the whole child with respect and compassion. Our programs are rooted in developmentally appropriate practice, emergent constructivist pedagogy, and child‑initiated environments that support confident, capable, and creative learners. We believe each young child is inherently curious and able to take an active role in their learning. As we continue to grow—including our expansion through Multnomah County's Preschool for All initiative—we are seeking experienced cooks or chefs to help support our staff, children, and families across three campuses. Play is a child's work. Play is a child's response to life. It is the way children discover themselves and the world around them.
Position Summary:
The Food Program Coordinator is responsible for general administrative kitchen duties as assigned, ordering, menus, and for planning, preparing, and implementing AM snacks, Lunch, and PM snacks, monitoring budget, sanitizing kitchen, and maintenance of related records for sanitation and licensing. The Food Program Coordinator promotes the center's philosophy and educational objectives. The Food Program Coordinator supports the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct. The Food Program Coordinator reports to the Business Operations manager and works with the Lead Food Program Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provide a safe and engaging communication environment with teachers, administrators, and caregivers Follow all policies and procedures in the employee handbook Supervision and training of any aides, volunteers, and interns assigned to the kitchen Maintaining all kitchen requirements aligned with laws, regulations, and licensing requirements, to include accurate and up-to-date attendance, and substitutions Develop and create well-balanced and age-appropriate menus that meet nutritional standards Key person in charge of the kitchen to manage, direct, and meet the DELC licensing guidelines Ensure the kitchen follows and complies with DELC licensing guidelines, along with any other federal, state, and local laws Ensure proper food handling and safety protocols are followed Understand and uphold CACFP program standards
Communication:
Maintain confidentiality Flexible, can communicate effectively and respectfully to staff, parents, and children Maintain regular communication with the Business Operations Manager regarding concerns, allergies, and special needs Communicate daily with caregivers about any posted menu changes for the day
Kitchen Management:
Observe children and make adjustments to the menu to meet the needs of the student Plan and conduct weekly menus, ordering supplies, receipts, and meetings with the other campus food program coordinator and supervisor Documents receipts for budget Track and maintain appropriate inventory of; food, serviceware, cooking supplies; cleaning supplies Document food temperatures Document date of perishable food Follow SOP for kitchen cleanliness Document cleaning supplies and expectations for the kitchen

Attend 15 hours of documented training per year (8 hours in child development). Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and professional growth. Complete all work using a Racial Equity and Anti-bias lens as outlined in school policies Participate in staff development, in-service trainings related to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and in early childhood education Model appropriate behaviors
Campus Support:
Act as Substitute Site Director when needed (for licensing purposes) Support all classes in maintaining the safety and cleanliness of the campus
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have a High School diploma or GED and be at least 18 years of age. Culturally responsive practices Ability to create positive, professional relationships with students, parents, caregivers, and colleagues Ability to work as a team member: The ability to problem-solve, compromise, collaborate, be flexible, and take direction when necessary Performs other duties as assigned Clear communication skills, both verbally and in written form At least 3 years of food service experience Knowledge of nutritional guidelines, food safety regulation, and dietary restrictions Current enrollment in the Oregon Central Background Registry Current Food Handler's card (within the first 30 days of employment) Current First Aid and CPR cards (within the first 90 days of employment) Participate yearly in at least 15 hours of training or education related to child development or early childhood education Initiative and ability to work with minimal direction; sound judgment and decision making capabilities are essential Proficiency in budget management and computer applications Experience with and understanding of the CACFP program
