ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES
The Program Specialist - Non-Clinical Healthcare Programs is responsible for supporting the Program Director Non-clinical healthcare programs ("Director") to help ensure the program is successful. This position requires excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to multi-task, strong leadership abilities, and good time management and organizational skills. The Program Specialist - Non-Clinical Healthcare Programs position is a non-tenure track position. This position is visible to the entire College community and to the public at all levels and routinely interacts with all constituent groups of the College as well as prospective students. This position is primarily remote, however, in person attendance may be required in limited circumstances.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assume teaching duties as assigned by the program director within the Non-Clinical Healthcare Programs program as a core program staff member. Provide tutoring assistance to students that require it as assigned. Prepares students for success in program progression (including but not limited to advising), obtaining employment upon program completion, and/or continuing their education. Assist the Director in the developing of, conducting, coordinating, and evaluating the experiential learning opportunities related to the Non-Clinical Healthcare Programs. Maintain current industry-specific knowledge and educational methodology through continuing professional development. Participate in curriculum design and ongoing curricular assessment of the programs, aligning with CAHIIM standards for HIT. Involvement in all areas of student and program assessment from admission to post graduation as outlined in the program assessment plan. Serves on College committees as needed. Participates in activities that facilitate professional expertise in the areas of administration, teaching and maintenance of Non-Clinical Healthcare Programs competence. Assists in publicizing and disseminating information about the Non-Clinical Healthcare Programs. Assist Director with measuring student attainment of program competencies and outcomes. Participates in Lackawanna College professional development opportunities, including CTL and adjunct professional development training. Performs other duties, responsibilities, and special projects, as assigned.
KEY COMPETENCIES
Demonstrated successful classroom experience at the two- or four-year college level using engaging, meaningful lessons and assessments, and comfort with including technology in the classroom. Maintains current and comprehensive knowledge of the healthcare profession. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to maintain effective working relationships with students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Knowledge of current trends in post-secondary education and a willingness to incorporate them into lessons, materials, and assessments. Proficient computer skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proven ability to think and work strategically, and to view processes from a holistic perspective. Must be able to function and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Excellent collaboration and customer service skills. Displays competence, professionalism and pride in being an employee of this institution. Support the Colleges Mission, particularly in administering the responsibilities of the department. Proven initiative and resourcefulness. Ability to work independently and conscientiously. Sound judgment and excellent decision-making skills. Ability to work flexible hours based on the needs of the College. Evenings and weekends may be required in support of events and activities.
EDUCATION
R/HIT and/or R/HIA certification required Master's degree in healthcare (Healthcare Administration, Health Informatics, etc.)
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 5 years of industry experience preferred. Demonstrated experience developing/revising curriculum preferred. Teaching online preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Position will require the ability to frequently reach, stand, walk, bend, twist, grasp, sit, talk, hear, see, climb and perform repetitive motions. Position will require the ability to lift and carry items up to 20 pounds, and push/pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
