Job Description:
ABOUT THE
ROLEAs a Program Guide you will combine your youth education and outdoor skills with ad hoc community engagement responsibilities, allowing you to share your love for the outdoors while promoting our organization's mission and programs at various events and venues.

RESPONSIBILITIESOutdoor Leadership Lead excursions including snow sports, climbing, backpacking, paddle sports, and other activities, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants Provide sound and proper guidance on outdoor skills, equipment usage, and environmental stewardship. Adapt activities to suit the skill levels and interests of participants, fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphereSafety and Risk Management Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks during outdoor activities and events for a variety of age groups and ability levels Conduct thorough safety briefings and equipment checks before each excursion, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and responsible behaviorSummer Program Assistance Assist Program Coordinators in the successful execution of programming curriculum such as the Snow Sports Program, Urban Wilderness Summer Camp and various Public Trips, including some overnight trips Assist in implementing safety protocols and procedures during outdoor programming. This includes conducting signing participants in and out of programming, safety briefings to participants, monitoring participant behavior, and being prepared to respond to emergencies Communicate guardians about youth successes and progress, as well as any behavioral issues Work to foster joy and support the emotional and physical well-being of all participants in OIC programming and assist in engaging the broader OIC communityTeam Collaboration Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate activities/events, share information, and address challenges Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment focused on achieving the OICs missionTrainings Participate in training to familiarize yourself with policies, youth engagement, emergency procedures and technical skills
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience supporting and communicating with a diverse group of stakeholders Excitement and willingness to learn regarding facilitation across a multitude of outdoor sports including but not limited to hiking, backpacking, camping, climbing, and water sports Experience and passion for educating a wide range of ages in formal and non-traditional settings Interpersonal and conflict management skills Excitement to work with youth of all ages and abilities, experience working with youth preferred.
REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work well independently and be part of a team Self-motivated and deadline oriented Must be comfortable managing groups of children in an outdoor setting Strong verbal communication PA State Act 151 Child Abuse, PA State Act 34 Criminal Background Check and FBI Background check
  • Mandated Reporter training
  • A reliable form of transportation Willingness to maintain any current guiding certifications. Interest in pursuing additional certifications preferred but not required. (current certifications not required) Current certification in CPR and First Aid preferred Flexibility to work where necessary on the weekend and evenings, including paid overnight excursions
