Job Description
Position Overview:
The mission of the Polk County Schools BOLT Mentorship Program is to foster meaningful connections between Polk Schools' students and caring community citizens. BOLT (Building Opportunities for Leadership and Trust) seeks to inspire leadership opportunities for students within their schools, social groups, and even in the broader community. BOLT's goals are to promote responsible citizenship, strengthen the bonds of our community, and help students achieve their fullest potential. BOLT is a grant-funded initiative supported by the Polk County Community Foundation. Students and mentors meet twice a month, one-on-one, during school. We have 22 students and their mentors across three schools that we serve.Position Summary:
Manage 20-25 mentor/mentee bi-monthly meetings across three schools. This mission-driven role includes program development, on-site meeting support, mentor training, schedule coordination, marketing/PR, and community engagement. This is a 15-18 hours/week part-time position that runs during the school calendar year.Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The BOLT Mentors Coordinator will be responsible for:- maintaining existing mentor and mentee relationships for 8th-12th graders.
- sharing monthly leadership goals and talking points with mentors.
- scheduling and attending mentorship meetings (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
- planning and coordinating of BOLT initiatives such as BOLT Career Speaker Series, field trips, and related initiatives (as grant funding allows).
- logging metrics, data, and program growth for annual mid-term and end-of-year grant reporting.
- researching and sharing continuing education resources with mentors.
- marketing of BOLT through social media, blogs, newsletters, newspaper articles, and community presentations.
- budget management.
- communication with school administrators.
- onboarding and training of new mentors twice per year.
- collaboration with guidance counselors to identify students for the program.
Experience:
The ideal candidate will have experience in education, working with youth, or with education-focused non-profits. Candidates will also have a passion for the power and possibility of youth mentorship.Education:
- College degree in education, human services, or business.
- Relevant field and employment experience are also considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Passionate about working with students to help them grow, thrive, and gain leadership skills.
- Willing to lean into program needs as they arise, and offering guidance, support, or advocacy as needed to students and mentors.
- Comfortable with community engagement and program promotion.
- Conscientious judgement of observing mentors and students in field settings.
- Experience working with youth.
- Strong organizational, communication and project management skills.
- Ability to create marketing materials to promote activities and growth.
- Comfortable with technology platforms such as Canva, Word, and Google.
Working Conditions:
- Job location is at the Polk Schools District office (
- remote work is optional).
- BOLT Coordinator reports to the Grants and Community Partnerships Coordinator at Polk Schools' District Office.
- BOLT program runs August
- May following the Polk School District calendar.
- Weekly (local) travel to Polk County Middle, Polk County High School and Polk County Early College two days/week.
