AGENCY DESCRIPTION

Washtenaw Area Council for Children (WACC) is a nonprofit organization based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, committed to preventing child abuse and neglect in Washtenaw County. As the State of Michigan's designated prevention partner for Washtenaw County, WACC provides educational programs and services to children, youth, parents, community members, and youth-serving professionals designed to promote child safety and prevent child abuse and neglect.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Prevention Specialist is responsible for the facilitation of the Cyber Safety and Wellness & Resiliency program.

Primary responsibilities include:

conducting school and community outreach; scheduling and facilitating youth and adult workshops; partnering with schools and education partners in the Washtenaw County area and child care providers; and providing cyber safety education and wellness & resilience education. Conduct program evaluation and curriculum review. Full-time position (40 hours per week). Must be able to work during school hours (occasional evenings and occasional Saturdays).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain and strengthen relationships with schools and community partners
• Conduct Cyber Safety training workshops for students, parents, and community members;
• Coordinate training with school personnel, child care providers, and law enforcement;
• Continuously update and enhance program curricula
• Assist with publicity and organization of community events and trainings;
• Promote community-level public awareness of cyber safety;
• Train selected youth about cyber safety (peer mentors);
• Coordinate, recruit, and facilitate summer camp sessions;
• Assist with special events that involve the students;
• Complete program evaluation for Board of Directors and grant funders;
• Other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director.

QUALIFYING EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• A Bachelor's Degree in education, child development, social work, or other related field
• A valid driver's license and personal transportation for programming across Washtenaw County - Mileage reimbursement provided at the current IRS Rate
• Experience with and a demonstrated ability to work with children and youth in grades 3-12, educators and youth serving professionals, and other community members
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice in all duties and position responsibilities
• Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills
• A willingness to work occasional evenings and Saturdays
• Experience with public speaking, workshop, and classroom facilitation is preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel software (MS Office Suite, Google Suite, or equivalent).

SUPERVISION

The Cyber Safety Program Facilitator reports directly to the Program Director.

CONDITIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT

• After six months of successful performance, an evaluation will be conducted, with reviews provided annually;
• This is a year-round (12-month) position
