The City of Milpitas is looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and detail-oriented professional to join the Recreation & Community Services Department as the Senior Center Program Coordinator. This position is responsible for planning and implementing classes, programs, events, and meet ups for the senior community. It also manages the City's Community Garden program at two popular sites. This individual also assists with budget preparation and monitoring, report writing and helping promote the Senior Center's programs, services, & events . The position will also lead "40 North," a new program and event series for adults ages 45 and older. The ideal candidate possesses strong communication and organizational skills and is excited to explore new ideas and approaches to programming. The successful candidate will be able to connect with individuals with a wide range of personalities and interests and demonstrate an understanding of the types of programs and activities that appeal to today's older adults. Examples of DutiesDuties may include, but are not limited to the following: Senior Programs Programs various classes, activities and special events for senior adults ages 50+Researches trends related to senior adults and conducts surveys to assess senior's interestsOversees programming and contract classes at senior-based satellite sitesDevelops and implements policies and procedures for various programs and activitiesPrepares and monitors budget for assigned areaProvides staff assistance to Senior Advisory Commission and other committeesPrepares reports on program operations including monthly summaries and quarterly reportsRecruits class instructors for senior center programs Nutrition Program Acts as the Site ManagerActs as the liaison to Santa Clara County Senior Nutrition personnelEnsures the site's proper food handling compliances are metCompletes and submits all necessary reports and paperworkDevelops and implements policies and proceduresManages provider contracts Contract Classes Creates, schedules and implements site-based contract classes for senior adultsMonitors enrollment and conducts regular class evaluations and assessmentsEnsures proper insurance compliances are metRemits payment to InstructorsMonitors Instructors and their programming Community Garden Manages the Community Garden programDevelops and implements policies and proceduresPrepares reports on operationsProvides training on Recycled Water and other Community Garden policies
Typical Qualifications Education :
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, public administration, or a closely related field, OR four (4) years of work e xperience equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in recreation administration, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience;
AND Experience :
Two (2) years of full-time experience coordinating a recreation program(s), including the supervision of part-time/seasonal personnel. Desired Skills /

Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain an appropriate, valid California Driver's License. Certification in CPR and First Aid from the American Red Cross within 90 days of appointment. •Required license and/or certification costs (excluding health exams) are covered within the department's operating budget. Costs associated with retesting due to the employee's inability to pass certification testing, will be the responsibility of the employee. SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience based on the application and responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire. Only the candidates whose backgrounds best match the position will be invited to proceed in the selection process. Additional phases of the selection process will consist of one or more interviews.

HYBRID SCHEDULEThis position may be eligible for one (1) remote / work from home day per week.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from a Recreation Services and Community Services Supervisor or the Director of Recreation and Community ServicesExercises general supervision over part-time employees and volunteers.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment: General office environment, attend meetings at various sites within and away from the City, and have the availability to work off-hour shifts and events as required; sit and/or stand for long periods of time, repetitive keyboarding; reach, squat, lift, and carry up to 40 pounds; mobility to lead groups in activities; ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. RETIREMENTMembership in CalPERS (2% at 60 or 2% at 62 with three year average salary). City of Milpitas employees do not participate in Social Security, but do contribute to Medicare.

ProTech members participate both in CalPERS, and the LIUNA pension fund. The current cost of the LIUNA pension fund is $1.39/hour.

MEDICAL INSURANCEChoice of CalPERS Medical Plans. City pays coverage up to the Kaiser rate (currently $2,228.36/mo. for family). Employees who waive health coverage are eligible to receive $125 per month in lieu of medical plan coverage with proof of other coverage.

RETIREE MEDICALEmployees are eligible upon CalPERS retirement from the City to receive up to 100% retiree medical coverage (currently based on the Kaiser health rate), based on years of service.

DENTAL & VISIONCity provides full family coverage for Delta Dental and MES Vision at no cost to the employee.

LIFE INSURANCECity provides $50,000 term policy. Supplemental employee-paid life insurance is available up to $500,000, based on carrier acceptance.
DISABILITY
INSURANCECity provides a Short-Term Disability plan similar to State Disability Insurance (SDI) coverage. Employees do not participate in SDI. Long-Term Disability coverage of 60% of base salary up to $1,500 per month is available after a 60-day waiting period. Additional buy-up options for LTD are available up to $6,000 per month.
DEFERRED
COMPENSATIONCity contributes $75 per month on the employee's behalf.

VACATIONHourly employees earn 11-31 days of vacation based on years of service.

HOLIDAYSEmployees receive 12 paid holidays and one (1) floating holiday per year.

SICK LEAVEEmployees earn 12 days annually.

TUITION REIMBURSEMENTEmployees are eligible to receive up to $1,400 per fiscal year in tuition reimbursement.
